Please explain me how do you think you gonna edit your 24p footage on your Pal equipment. I guess you better move to a NTSC land or just buy NTSC equipments.

With any NLE system. If the camera supports 24P, than it can be used to record the output from the NLE. As for monitoring, my plasma will do. It's pal and Ntsc compatible (1080/50i and 1080/60i compatible)

Have any of you tried slowing down 25p to 24p and actually seen the results? Well I have, and it sure ain't pretty. I did a promotional video on the Pal dvx100 in 25p and had to downconvert it to ntsc 24P. I had to pay $300 for the conversion in a pro post house, and the results even on hardware conversion where a lot worse than on the native 25P. So please try it first ntsc guys. Than you'll see what we are talking about.

Jan, if your on this thread, would it be possible for you to clarify a Panasonic press release about the DVX 100 B which contains the following:

"Improved colour reproduction with advanced image adjustments have enhanced this already high quality unit allowing productions to cut material shot on this Camcorder into other formats with even more ease.

With the release of the P2miniCam, prices for all Panasonics SD mini DVs has been brought down making production on these high quality units much more cost effective."

Barry commented in the DVX 100 B thread that this was a Panasonic Europe press release. Might you have any idea about what "image enhancements" it may be refering to and also the issue of the prices for all "SD mini DVs being brought down." It seemed like we were being told by Mikko that the price for the 100 B was at $4,000.00 which is the same list as the 100 A.

Thanks

I'm a Pal guy and I use to do this all the time. It works well. If you try to watch a 24p on a Pal equipment it will not work. Because you try to convert 24p to 50i , it is ugly. But if you use Atlantis, the software to convert Pal to NTSC than you get a very good result. And if you transfer 25p to 24fps , frame by frame to celluloid and project it in the cinema you never gonna tell the different.

Let say you make your film with super35, 24fps. You will project the movie in cinema with 24fps but one projector goes 23,6 and the other 24,4 fps. Do you think you gonna tell the different?

Generally a 4% difference is completely unnoticeable bar for an audio problem which requires a "pitch change" but it's all pretty standard. I've shot 25 fps for 24 fps on several occasions and the differences are negligible, if indeed, perceivable. I do think that the concerns in this regard on the thread are pretty overbaked and wouldn't prevent a masterpiece, in real terms, from getting an audience. Just my two shillings but hey, whatever rocks your boat. If parrying over minutiae is your thing then go for it.

I shoot on a PAL DVX100 in 25P and regularly convert it to 24P for clients in the US. The difference is barely noticeable.

24<>25 conversion is a non-issue.

I know people in the US who used PAL cameras to shoot for film distribution, and no one had any issues with 25P to 24P.

it's in the manual, jdanstan...
