HVX v RED Footage

I just shot a "making of" video for a music video on my HVX200 (no A) and thought it is interesting to compare the image quality to the actual video shot on RED ONE:

a good way to highlight red in an hvx200 clips section....
nonetheless, the hvx is capable of any music video, commercial or feature film.

and i notice you're using the HVX here for behind the scenes stuff, thats not really a comparison.
Try applying the right settings in the HVX's menus, using it on the same dollies, jibs etc. that you have the red on,
then compare.

I was actually referring to the quality in comparison to how it handled the lighting and the overall image quality. I think it stands up very well. I don't think you need to put the camera on a dolly or crane to get a sense of that!

i agree, a sense of that no prob. What im referring to is that as you know, when the HVX or many other HD cams are setup right and lit right, they can give extremely good looking footage. Unfortunately most filmmakers, including me when i started out expected grand results with point and shoot.

I was busy for a while with this VS that threads, films were made before Red and before the HVX, they are just tools, if used right, no one gives a damn what was used but ultimately care about the story, acting, etc.

Man I love seeing these types of posts. I knew the 200a was good and I put a lot of time into research before I bought it but I'm still glad it's testing so well. I've been really happy with almost everything I've shot.

Dont believe the hype, i was too worked up with the resolution wars. There's more to the story than that, the HVX200A will do you for a while. It still amazes me with its performance when handled right.

I almost shot Red for a behind the scenes shoot but decided to go with an HVX instead. It came out pretty well and was so much quicker/easier - it was the right choice for the job, Red can be very time consuming and sometimes more trouble than it's worth. HVX is an incredible camera if you're careful - I tend to cheat the d.o.f on the HVX200 as much as possible by adding in a bit of foreground - and always shoot wide open obviously!

those girls are HOT....oh, the video footage, yeah that was hot too, great comparison shots....how much setup time is involved when shooting with the red as opposed to when you were shooting with the hvx on this?

i have the original hvx and the hpx and am still amazed at how clean the footage comes out if you know what you're doing.
