I'm pretty keen to get this info out as it works like a treat. I just got back from a 10 day trip where I had no power. To overcome the problem I built my own usb power supply to power my Lacie rugged drives. It worked great and I filled 2 160 gig drives with about 1/4 to 1/2 of a 5600mah panasonic battery. I will make a list of specifics and try to send a photo but anybody with a basic understanding of electrics should be able to help. I used an Inca battery plate (panasonic type 6 battery) $10 Aussie. From there we unsrewed it and used the contacts running a lead into a small metal box where we washed away 2 volts. The metal box acts as a heat distributor. The output is via another lead with a female usb end. I can now charge or run anything that uses bus power via my camera batteries. I know we all do things a little different but this format is important as I am often away from power for extended periods and now using P2 and not tapes things changed and this is my solution.

One note -- there is no specific info on power usage of portable drives for example the Porsche range seem to suck more juice and therfore were hard to power so please test a drive if you can before you purchase them. I used 3 new Lacie Rugged drives 160 gig with FW 400 Fw 800 and usb interface.

Again I will try and put together a parts list and a few photos if people are interested.

Good luck

I'd be interested to see what you came up with, particularly if it would work for other drives in addition to Lacies. If you can find the time, please post the list and any advice/tips/warnings about assembling the parts.

Thanks,
