HVX statement

I'd like to hear what Jan said, apparently her comments fueled a firestorm? I don't care, I just want to know what info she passed out regarding delays and shipping etc. I've been told by one dealer that the "HVX will get here when it gets here..."

Maybe Jan had something more?

That's essentially all she said. You know as much as everyone else... we're all just playing the waiting game. I believe her post (and subsequent related posts) were removed because there was some personal attacking going on (to her, not from Jan), and there was no place for it on the forums. While I do believe everyone should have the right to say whatever is on their mind, this is Jarred's forum and I also will defend his position to run it how he sees fit.

I think most of us are just overeager with anticipation to see how the new camera handles, and the footage we have been able to download has been so sporadic and inconsistent that it is causing quite a bit of heated conversation. I think that the four-way shootout will help to alleviate a lot of that (although it will undoutedly spark new disagreements), and hopfully it will come sooner than later. With the tone of the posts on the forums in the last few days, it can't come soon enough.

what statement? nothing she said created a firestorm.... she just said the number of cams shipped was confidential...

Well, I'm pretty sure that's why Barry is inviting some other non-DVXuser based people to take part. Keep it as non-biased as acceptably possible.

My plan, if it works out, is to have a couple of non-biased, and an equal number of equally rabidly-biased individuals, to make sure that each product is represented absolutely fairly. If I can get who I'm thinking of asking to participate, I really would be shocked if anyone looked at the results and could say "bias" in any way.

Whatever. All you can do is the best you can do, and try to get a respected group of professionals to agree, and if they don't, print that they don't. I really don't know how else to do it.

Ah -- perhaps you missed the other key point. When evaluating the footage, they're not allowed to know which camera each came from. It will be a blind taste test.

SURELY that should go a ways towards eliminating even the slightest whiff of bias.

That is correct. However, knowing what the tool's capabilities are, and whether one handles certain circumstances better than another, is valid and useful information.

Ok, but who will shoot the footage?

We could rent a monkey and let him point at his favorite footage. I think that would be pretty unbiased. Wait, does Sony make monkies? They might.

Even I can read that answer, "My plan, if it works out, is to have a couple of non-biased, and an equal number of equally rabidly-biased individuals, to make sure that each product is represented absolutely fairly. If I can get who I'm thinking of asking to participate" Barry Green.

I thought he was talking about those who will judge the footage.

Which is better, Arri or Panavision, Sony or Panasonic, Kodak 5218 or 5246?

Ummm... 5298 is better. They don't make it anymore, but I loved shooting me some 98. :)

We could rent a monkey . . .

Anyone (besides me) remember that show where Dave Letterman introduced his "monkey cam?" Hilarious!

I was guessing that we would get to judge it -- all we need are 4 clips marked, "A" "B" "C" and "D". I'll bet that's what Barry meant.

Somebody said it earlier, that we're all a little "antsy" (or disappointed, etc., etc). I agree, and honestly think that's where all the obtuse remarks/behavior came from. Weird, huh? People are such funny animals -- group dynamics can run off in nearly any direction . . . I think I may want to do a documentary on this wacky behavior when my new cam comes in. Of course I will need a stable subject as the reference "normal" person . . . maybe John Hudson would help me out with this?

shmoke out

shmoke out

Next week I'm having a 4 way smoke out which will include Nepal Temple Ball Hash, Morrocon Gold,Yellow Lebanese and some black Manali. If I can get who I'm thinking of asking to participate (Jan, Barry..Jarred-you have no choice..you're Canadian) I really would be shocked if anyone looked at the results and could say "bias" in any way. I'll post my results next week. Damn it people go get stoned and drunk with your loved ones and calm the F down. I love what these guys do here. Why is this forum turning into some whiny bitchs? We're videographers damn it not gay hairdressers! (I didn't mean to say that to offend anyone who happens to be a gay hairdresser/videographer here.)

I have three guys in mind for doing the shooting and/or judging, all working professionals. I haven't asked two of them yet, because I don't know what the date will be yet.

I'm just trying to give everybody an equal opportunity to see how each one gets them high before the wonderful members of dvxuser.com spend their hard earned cash on some illegal substance. Just like how Barry is trying to do a shootout so that some people here that aren't sure what camera to get may have a better understanding of the visuals those cameras provide. But ya..it was pretty f'n funny.

Barry thank you for giving a shlt. Hope it goes well because I can't wait to see it. Your hash is in the mail.
