Found this on the Abel Store site:

As an authorized Panasonic dealer, we are now accepting deposits on the HVX200 Production package. A non-refundable $1,000 deposit is required, which will be applied to the purchase price of $9,499 or the price of the package at the time of availability. Alternatively, you can call one of our sales reps to reserve your camera.
Price: $ 1,000.00

I haven't been keeping up with the posts on the HVX and maybe it's already been covered... But at one point i heard a $5,000 range, now it looks like $9500.....Anyone care to comment?

They likely are talking about the package with 2 P2 cards. I don't like the look of that package as it means you can't shop around for the best P2 price. That said I am in the UK and have no idea where I will get the cards from.

I'm gonna jump in here just to say that Abel is a fantastic company. I purchased a Panasonic VariCam package from them a couple of years ago, and can honestly say that I've never been treated better by a company.

Strangely enough, a majority of companies these days just don't care about their customers. Abel on the otherhand (and Panasonic for that matter) treat you well regardless of your budget. Having dealt with a variety of other camera dealers out there for F950's, the great service you get from Abel & Panasonic are truly rarities.

PS - Sorry if that's wacky sounding, I'm a little under the weather.

Take care all, and again I highly recommend Abel - and no I have absolutely no affilitation with them other than being a customer.

Similar high praise for Abel -- Abel Cine Tech is a class act through and through. I would have no qualms whatsoever about ordering from them. They offer great support, and Jerrod from Abel participates here in the forum regularly.

And yes, as jrv3034 clarified, what Abel is offering for $9499 is the camera+2 cards bundle, which retails at $9995.

Speaking as the voice of Abel Cine Tech on DVXUser.com there are indeed two different pre-order deposit options.

Option 1: HVX200 Production Package which includes the camera packaged with two of the 8GB P2 Cards for a purchase price of $9,499 (below the Panasonic list price of $9,995).

Option 2: HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 Camera which is the camera alone for a purchase price of $5,795 (below the Panasonic list price of $5,995).

In regards to the pre-order deposit:
We have been compiling a pre-order interest list (which did not require a deposit) since NAB of clients who are interested in the HVX200. As Panasonic has finally announced the pricing on the camera we are contacting clients from the list in the order which they were added to allow them to place a $1,000 deposit on the camera. The camera's will then be delivered to clients in the order of the list. Any new deposit's taken are added to the list and are delivered in that order. The reason we are doing this is to assure clients who have expressed a desire to be one of the first to get their hands on the camera to be assured delivery first.

As is often the case with any new "HOT" product, often times the original order shipped by the manufacturer is insufficient to meet the immediate demand (see the current back order status of most retailers with the Glidecam Smooth Shooter as an example, or the back orders when the Toyota Prius and new Ford Mustang were released). That being the case, it is certainly to your advantage to be locked in rather than be subject to being thrown in with everyone else trying to find someplace that has stock and oftentimes paying an additional premium to get them.

I would be happy to answer any further questions on the issue via Private Message or Phone.

BTW: thanks for the votes of confidence from Harlan, Barry and khmuse.

again - highest marks for Abel. I just finished shooting a television pilot in NYC on their SDX900 and I will continue to go to them for all of my projects. Craig is the man!

I don't know.. But the guy who designs their stuff sold us a matte box and follow focus system for one of our Sony Z1U's. OMG that guy answered all my technical questions, and I asked a lot. I think it's actually the owner of the company. He came right to our highschool and gave a demonstration on how the stuff worked. I later met him at NAB. Great guy. Forgot his name.

yes, abel is a quality company. The demand on the HVX, already, has justified the deposit, in fact i am sure if the deposit was $3000 most of the dealers would still pre-sell all of thier first inventory.

Has anyone seen (premilinary) prizes for HVX200 in Europe? In Euros? I saw one place in Italy (www.adcom.it) and it was 6000€ + taxes (if I undestood right)...PHEW!!! I think that is QUITE much! At least compared to the list prize...5,995$...

Is there any italian guy who can tell me what does this mean:

"Disponiibile da Dicembre 2005 a 6.000,00 Euro + IVA"

What is IVA? I suppose it means taxes but how much?

Anyone seen better prize or should I start  ???

Thanks. I'm just getting scared. I just want HVX200 in reasonable prize. Jenkie boys can buy it for under 6,000$!!! I want it also for that prize. Maybe it's cheaper to order from U.S.

when is HVX exact shipping date again? I have to cut, hang, kill, shoot myself if it doesn't come out by November 16th that's when I fly to do a big project.

I'd say start making alternate plans. The earliest we've heard said is "November/December". If you go to EVS or Abel and pay in full to get to the head of the list, maybe you'll stand a chance of getting one sometime in November, but even then it could be after your start date.

I wouldn't expect to see quantity shipments until December.

Obviously if there's news, Jan would know more. Jan, any updates?

adcom is a serious company but their product are expensive.
In Italy there is a lot of speculation on electronical equipment.

available from December 2005

IVA is the equivalent of VAT in US and it's 20% so the camera on adcom will cost 7200 euros, they are crazy.

no sorry, I am looking for the same thing but it's difficult to find a decent price.

Maybe it's cheaper to order from U.S.

yeah but we need pal.

I am betting that once the JVC gathers steam, the good folks at Panasonic will accelerate the release of the HVX. I really hope so being that I have a project slated for Mid November (just as the first poster). There is so much buzz over this camera in New York, that I'm glad I'm on the list to get one of the first batch. I fielded three calls in the past two days whether they should get the JVC or the HVX. Most arguments surround the interchangeable lens ability of the JVC. One suggestion that I wished I could relay to the engineers at Panasonic would be to do as the Canon and JVC and give the ability to take off the lens when using an adapter as the P&S mini or pro35. It doesn't have to be interchangeable lens but just the ability to disconnect the Leica lens, attach a depth of field adapter and use other lens on the adapter. Just my opinion.

the interchangeable lens from JVC is a great feature, but you are still limited to 25 mbs capture in 4:2:0. So there are certainly trade off's to each of the cameras.

And I would say that Barry is probably right (big surprise there right?) about the camera being closer to the end of November or first part of December. Nothing official yet, but I can't imagine that Panasonic would speculate that late if there was any possibility of a mid-November release.

then again....that is just my 1.85 cents plus tax....

Please forgive me, but let me clarify this: the ABILITY to interchange lenses on the JVC is a great feature. The actual interchangeable lens from JVC is not a great feature -- I think it's more along the lines of a cheap piece of ... optics... well, it's not a very good lens, in my opinion, and it's is plagued with chromatic aberration. But the fact that you can interchange it means at least you're not stuck with it.

but you are still limited to 25 mbs capture in 4:2:0.
25mbps applies to the Sony, not the JVC. The JVC is 19mbps, not 25. Even so, because the JVC frame rate is slower, the JVC actually is less compressed (megabits per pixel) than the Sony is; but the Sony offers more pixels per second.

then again....that is just my 1.85 cents plus tax....
And we very much appreciate your 1.85 cents, plus tax, and your participation in the forum!
