Say I get used to using P2 on the HVX, I am then far more liking to buy Panasoinc (with P2) in the future rather than change over to a tape or optical based system. Maybe they will sell the P2 production rights to other companies if it takes off = lots of money.
It is only my theory - but I am pretty sure it is right because Pany is REALLY selling P2 and wouldn't be doing that unless they were hoping to make a lot of money off it.
