HVX / Premiere Dilemma

Hi all. I've just gotten my hands on a brand new HVX and am absolutely ecstatic about starting work with it. However, it seems I've hit a bit of a snag. Premiere won't support the P2's mxf format until October, when their update should take care of things. However, my first HVX project will be shot next week and delivered by the very end of September.

What are my options in the meantime?

Thanks in advance for your help.

All the Best,
Ari

I've downloaded the demo for that, but when importing, premiere tells me I've got a codec missing. I know this is becuase I've got FCP 5.0 which works only with PowerPC processors, and I've got a mac pro. I'm not sure if there's any way around this.

**EDIT: nm, I thought you were on a PC

you have to manually copy the raylight.prm file to both subfolders in your Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Premiere Pro CS3/Plug-ins folder after you run the install

If you've got Premiere CS3 you will be able to record directly to a laptop using OnLocation. If you can use OnLocation to record from the HVX's firewire output, the mxf files are wrapped in an avi wrapper that Premiere can work with "as is".

The problem is you have to be tethered to a laptop with most likely a 15 foot firewire cable. It works great though. OnLocation (previously DVRack HD) even strips out the duplicate frames when shooting 24p so you end up with smaller files on your hard drive that are as if you shot in 24pn.

If you've got a speedy laptop and can tether it to you while you shoot on location, then you are set to go right now.

Edit --- ooops I thought you were on PC rather than Mac too --- probably won't do you any good. Sorry.

will fcp 5.0 run at all on the mac pro? under rosetta? if so, use fcp to import mxf's and convert to whatever premiere likes...

Does anyone know whether OnLocation does the pulldown in the 1080 mode of HVX? Stripping off the duplicate frames?

I meddled only with the 720 mode, while I had rented the HVX.

Thanks.

P.S. OnLocation rocks!

It's predecessor (DV Rack HD) did, so I'm sure OnLocation does as well.
