HVX Operation Manual online

Thanks Jan now I can justify the price to the wife "look darling it can DO THIS it says so in the manual".

Could be the Ntsc to Pal only a firmware update?

This thing makes me do more thoughts about this camera, considering for example the same resolution between Pal and Ntsc in 720p mode.

According my hypothesis, maybe oscillator stuff is not a problem to allow 24p in Pal territory?

How The firmware can increase the image quality? Noise and other sadly problems? It could do this, yes or no Jan?

For example the low lph we've seen (it seems the lowest in Hd prosumer market) perfomance could be resolved by a firmware update?

Only you Jan Crittenden Livingston could explain if all this problems can be resolved.

I hope your product is better Jan, I really like the project, if there was not Canon giving me thoughts witht high quality images from its camera, surely I'd buy Panasonic Hvx200 for the important and innovative features included.

Thanks:)

Many Regards

Thanks Jan!

ok, how many people skipped the license small print and went right to the operating setion of the manual?

Check out page 4 parts of the cam's software is under GPL ... it's an (partly) open source camera!

Did somone say 'hack'?

- Mikko ..maybe *now* we get jetpack mode?

Did anyone notice that from the point of Jan's posting to the point of the first Thank You, only 4 minutes passed?

The server that handles the forum must be really taking a beating from all the hits it gets from all of us...

I did skip over the sections on MiniDV tape, who needs that?

If people are so excited about the Canon, why is all the hype and buzz going on about the HVX? .. and all this noise and grain stuff. I think people see what they want to see and come to the table with bias and negativity. The camera and footage are amazing and the number of filmmakers and non techies buying this is proof. I've only ever bought canon products and I'm selling all of my video stuff, but still gonna keep the still stuff.

My rep told me that since the the canon launched he hasn't sold one.. even after loaning it out and having it on display at his place. Now on the day he got his HVX there were 14 people there to check it out at 10am and he had appointments all afternoon.. and he didn't even have any to sell. The canon rested idle like a red-headed step child. Especially after looking through the viewfinder. Maybe it was the 24f or p business but talk about headaches and good luck trying to focus that thing. Most trippy.

Sensors and res tests aside... this is a tool for storytellers and filmmakers.

On page 129 of the manual, the "frame rate" table ends at 48fps. I thought the HVX would go down to 60fps. Was I misinformed?

That table is listing the variable frame rates apart from the standard ones, which are 24, 30, and 60. You'll notice none of those show up in that table.

60p is most definitely supported.

Having problems with P2 store

Having problems with P2 store

Hi Jan: Talked to U last year and thanks for the encouragement. I own a HVX 200(2 years) and it has been working great. I recently upgraded camera and P2 store to accept 16gb cards and everything worked fine. Yesterday a shot a little footage downloaded to the P2 store and my Mac would not recognize any volumnes. Shot some more footage, downloaded to the P2 store. My PC media manager noted 10 volumes, but my mac G5 would only recognize one volume not any of my orginal footage. The one volume imports to FCP66 without any problems. The P2 store shows no errors on display,, Media manager shows the 10 volumes with normal status,. Mac disk utility verifys the one volume but not the other nine. My confidence in my workflow is shaken. How can I access the hidden volumes?

Love the HVX, shot some outstanding footage with a UCLA grad that looks like film.
Sincerely, Jim Batzer aka pilotroc@mind.net
