I'm willing to make a backup of a project shot with the HVX.
I already made one backup of the entire footage but it required 50 DVDs !!
Now I want to make another backup and I was wondering if there's any acceptable way to backup the footage using less storage but keeping the quality.
I considered transcoding the clips to HQ MPEG-2 or even DivX files but I think it would be inappropriate.
Can anyone suggest a good codec for this?
Is VideoLAN h.264 any good? Or something of this sort.
For audio, there are lossless codecs [I use Monkey Audio], which preserve 100 % of the quality, while reducing the file sizes to even 50 % sometimes. Then if you want to convert the clip back to WAV, the file is 100 % identical.
Are there similar lossless options for video?
Bottomline is, I want something that takes less space than the DVCPRO HD clips [720p in my case], but sacrifices very little or no quality.
Can anyone suggest a reliable option?
Thanks in advance.
