HVX Firestore 100 Problem

So my HVX won't recognize the Firestore. This is after month of using the two without issue. The only thing that happened between shoots was I charged the firestore. I've since reset both the camera and the firestore and run the repair disk utility.

Basically, I turn on the FS-100, turn on the HVX and I get the "No P2" flashing light in the top left of the viewfinder. I called FS and they're stumped cuz the firewire cord allows the FS to be used as a hard drive on my computer and allows the ccomputer to capture minidv footage from the camera. Has anyone run into these issues?

My advice after using the FS100 . . sell the thing and get P2 cards instead. My camera has never had any trouble seeing them.

I just received my 32gb P2 card today. Thank god. The firestore is the most cumbersome device I have ever used. Exstremely poorly designed. I would RMA it and use it as a back up for the P2. Selling it is not a bad idea either. It's too difficult to use and I am sure it will fail again.

I've debated about selling my Firestore...but I've been on 3 shoots where I've shot 90 minutes of footage without having the time to dump footage...but I've still considered it, 32gb would be really nice

You really only see reports of problems here with the Firestore. Rarely do you have someone going to the doctor and saying everything is fine.

Bretton,

If you can capture dv footage from the Firewire port of the HVX to your computer then that port is funcitoning fine.

And if you are connecting the FS to the computer and seeing it as a HD, then that port is working fine, but the FS has two FireWire ports. One to the computer one to the Camera. Maybe the other FireWire port is the one that is damaged.

I for one just damaged my Firewire port on my HVX. That thing is super fragile and Panasonic should definitely find a solution for it. So make sure the HVX firewire port is functioning correctly because it definitely the weakest link.

ps: even though my FS to HVX has caused me problems, I can attribute the problem to the HVX not the FS. And the fact that there were many days already that I would have ran out of space without the FS100 make me not want to sell mine at all. What would be nice is to get 2-32gig cards and keep the FS100 for those days that you run out of space.

Bretton,

I've had a handfull of bad drives in these units. The majority of FS-100's are great, but a few have had issues with the drives. I've had this problem 100x more when i've used to shining citidisk, which i DO not ever recommend. I have had bad drive after bad drive with the citidisk. Anyway, When my drive went bad in my FS-100, it wouldn't connect to the camera or the computer and i received the same "No P2" error.

Can you check to see if it will mount to your mac or pc?

Take care,

Henry

Right now my HVX-200 is at the repair center for a damaged firewire port (also for the lens alignment).

Is there a way to test that second port on the FS100? I imagine it is possible that in the process of blowing the firewire port out on the HVX-200, the FS100 may have been damaged also. Since I don't have a second camera, I was thinking that FCP could output a DV signal out for testing??? When I get my camera back I want to be sure the FS100 is working properly before I plug it back in.
