HVX Europe availability

"all" like:

"PAL-cameras for ALL 23 Panasonic PAL-regions" ?

might be..... fact is: they are not 100% the same models. There is not 1 PAL-model and that's what I'm afraid of...

think..

think..

ok.. you're all right..but
i've never heard about a store in the PAL countries (in my case EU) selling NTSC cameras..so why a NTSC country store should sell a PAL camera? maybe just some frontier countries deal both of them.
There should be someone of you living in the States that confirmed this to us.
Also i'm not so aware about the laws concerning importing electronical parts from USA to EU.
Anyway i can say that in Europe there are countries that are so far cheaper in cameras than for example mine (Italy). Like Slovenia or Croatia have very low basic prices. Than if you are VAT excluded the stuff gets more affordable..
any price news from all over the world??

alpi69, thanks for your participation. All the advices, experience(s), stories, etc. (= knowledge) are important to any POV (there will be always more than one) about the question.

<PS> One POV is good but more than a one isn't less/worst [Citizen Kane - Emanuel's remember :) ] and we are here in order to share all of this; Deleuze called it: "multiplicity" - the basis concept of all of the contemporary art(s)

edwave: you can get the PAL DVX in NewYork:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=312108&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

you will also be able to get the HVX for sure.

another possibility is globalmediapro.com who are based in NZ I believe, but have a store in UK i heard. So there are ways to get the cam from oversees. but as I said before: if it really is cheaper in the end when something goes wrong is the question. just keep your eyes open and wait until february, then the final prices on the different items will come open.

Okay, today I saw the Panasonic AG-HVX200 in action for my first time. After playing with it and seeing the picture quality, I just wanted to buy that beast. The camera, I was playing with, was the same, they had at the IBC, that means: a prototype, that can do 1080i only. However I was very impressed. I really wanted to find some colour aberration, but did not see anything. Edges with a high change in contrast - I did not find any green or purple fringe.
Here are the results of my conversation with the Sales Manager of Panasonic Broadcast Europe:
1. The camera will be available in Europe in February at the earliest. Because there are so many advance bookings, it is more realistic to be able to get the camera during April/May (if You have not booked Your unit already).
2. Still it is not clear, if they will deliver the camera for itself on the one hand and as a bundle on the other or as a bundle only. But the Manager stated for himself, what means, that it is not official, that there will be the possibility to buy the camera without any P2 card - in the manager's eyes this chance is 85 percent. It is possible too, that there will be a bundle with 4 GB P2 cards. However I filled the manager up with all of our arguments against a bundle-only (thanks, alpi69!).
3. No prices are official up to now, only, that there will be a bundle with two P2 cards à 8 Gigabytes for under 10.000 Euro. But the manager suggested, that the price for the camera itself will be not under 6.000 Euro (excluding value-added tax).
4. The prices of the P2 cards will drop continuously. 8 GB for 1.300 Euro?
5. The FireStore unit will be available from December on. It will not be distributed here in Europe only by Panasonic Broadcast Europe, but for itself.
6. The 720p frame rates in the PAL version should be twelve steps. Still it is not official, in which steps, neither at the PAL nor at the NTSC version. The manager said, that for the PAL version 12, 23, 25, 32/33 and 50 frames per second would be realistic, but not 4.
7. There will be no service for grey imports here in Europe. They will repair Your grey model, but not for free.

Thanks Robert! This "things" of internet have this: I've been waiting for your (tonight) news and here is, as promised! As far as I can see: you're a "Man of word", congrats!

That's why 24p/60i carries on an option, unfortunately (maybe or maybe not!)

What's the guess for a HVX 4Gb P2 cards bundle?

When? From the HVX availability? And for 4Gb P2 cards?

How is it possible? Please, not another rumor! Sometimes these Pana guys are only vendors not so responsible as they must be [unfortunately, I only must agree with Barry when he says that particular person (with a function there) said this or that...]

Firestore press release says: March 2006, isn't it? (it's a question of reliable source...maybe that vendor or similar doesn't know anything about the silly statement that just pronounced = with a lot of implicationssssssssssss with so many people: I only have 3 productions pending!)

The US Firestore will be NTSC/PAL one model only, right?

Sorry my ignorance but what is the "grey model"? The US NTSC model?

Grey model means imported into your country from another country. Not purchased in your country. So if an American purchased a camera in spain, that would be a grey import. If I purchased from USA, that would be a grey import.

Thanks alpi69 for the link..
so the matter is how much the import taxes from USA amount at the time..
the next step is only to consider the different prices added the taxes and make the choice.. i still believe that my country won't be the best option to get the cheapest one, as usual.

another question, not related to this: is the 85mm lens thread size confirmed?? i came up with some doubts as long as Cokin has not an 85mm adapter ring for his filter holders. They have 86mm rings...
Maybe they'll come up with a fitted one?

ed

Cokin has 82mm rings....

But I still don't know what to think about Cokin.... I've been using Cokin for years, but honestly the material never seemed that high quality to me as Cokin pretends it to be... Perhaps I'm wrong, but I only liked the kind of system, but never the material.

Robert, great info.
if anyone has more questions I will go to the showing in Munich on the 10th. So I can find out whatever we are missing there.

What I have forgotten:
- The battery does not hold up very long.
- The manager did not want to make any statements regarding the CCD's, but he said, that they will look like 2.2 megapixels.

What about the service if you have problems with a HVX that you bought in Hong Kong and you live and use it in Europe? - Will they accept the camera for service at your Panasonic distributor? - Not to forget: there ARE some little differences between a HVX200 made in Europe and a HVX200 made in Asia... even if it's both PAL.... First of all, you d' have to check the voltage - and I don't know whether a camera from a country with lower voltage would work in a country with higher voltage - even if you exchange the battery etc. - I need a 100 Euro power transformer for getting US-devices work here in Switzerland. It's a 10 pound heavy machine that transforms up to 1000 Watt from 240V (Switzerland) to 110V (USA).

So, using in Europa a chinese camera with a chinese battery is surely no problem - but how do you want to recharge the battery? - Perhaps there's a solution, but I don't know neither any nor do I know the voltages of other PAL countries and would be afraid that the smallest detail I didn't think of could be a huge problem when I want to use a "foreign" camera in my country.
Hi cici
If you look at the DVX100AE (PAL) specs you'll see that the supply voltage is 7.9V and that the AC Adapter supports 110/120/220/240V AC, 50/60Hz. The only difference from country to country is the power cable (unfortunately). So I don't expect that this is going to jeopardize your idea buying the HVX outside Switzerland.

I hope so... it's just a point that has to be checked.... and as Italy, Switzerland has very high prices, so I'm gonna probably buy the camera in Germany (1/2 km from my town) and (taxe will be refund) or in another country.
