HVX Europe availability

Hi..
I'm from Italy and one of the biggest video store here will have HVX ready to sell in February at 6000€ VAT excluded (this means 7200€ about), i didn't understand if the price includes one, two or none P2.
Did anyone from Europe (or in general PAL countries, 'cause that's the issue) have heard something different about selling availability or/and prices?
cheers

ed

Ciao ed, sei benvenuto! Dove sei tu o dove stai? At this price (oppure prezzo; dove?), by now, it's impossible another pack unless the camera-only version... If confirmed, it will be good news. We hope so! Despite the recent rumor about the possibility of a dicrimination policy from Panasonic - not yet confirmed and we expect never - regarding a HVX 2x 8Gb P2 bunddle @ €10000 + IVA/VAT only for the european market or even PAL regions (less probable 'cause the diversity of the Panasonic dealers or markets) that we must reject and we need to show them before soon than late.

Hi Emanuel.
i'm from Milano but i live in bologna and i work both in bologna and Roma.
The dealer i mentioned was ADCOM in Bologna (http://www.adcom.it/visnew.php?id=79). Someone told me that this price includes a 4gb card... i'm very doubtful about it.
Do you think we'll see only 10000€ bundles including 2 P2s in our store, do you?

is the 10k already incl. VAT ??

Tomorrow (November 3rd) I will have a meeting with Panasonic Broadcast Europe in Berlin to see the HVX200 and its picture quality. I will ask them about
- the time of availability
- the prices for the camera itself and the bundles (which?)
If You are interested in other things, please write it down here, and I will ask that too and after that inform You.

I'm afraid it's €10K VAT excluded because it's a professional product and not a consumer one, at least in Europe (prosumer is an unofficial designation). So, as you know, depending on the tax of this or that country... Comparatively to the US, you can buy the camera-only for €4585. The euro is currently $1.20 US - the US price is 20% less! That's why I've been know the possibility of the HVX 24P/60i purchase for shooting in PAL regions.

Robert, i can´t wait for the 10th (broaadcast show in munich)...

could you ask about the framerates in 720p on the PAL cam, please.

emanuel: buying for dollar 4600 in the US will add 25% in import tax , which makes it 5750.
if you try to "smuggle it in" you have to be prepared to be caught once and have to pay the importtax plus the fine. and if anything goes wrong you need to send it to the US for repair, and you have to deal with 60i issues in the PAL region. don´t know if all that is worth it?
on the other hand purchasing the P2 devices in the US will be a good idea.

it is better to watch out for the cheapest non-VAT price throughout Europe (UK maybe?) and get it there. I don´t pay VAT as a company, so that is no concern to me.

I disagree alpi69.
I am sure you will be able to pick up a PAL version of the camera from B&H in New York once the camera is out next March. You can fly out cheaply, stay a couple of nights, buy the camera, and enjoy a bit of sightseeing.

The chances of getting stung for tax are remote if you use a bit of sense. Take a beaten up camera bag and bring the camera back in that. How will a customs guy know you just purchased it?

Get rid of the box, or if you really want to keep it, buy a couple of cheap ornaments, put them in the box, wrap it up and post it to yourself with a value of $50 on the customs label.

You now have the camera, tax free, and the box will arrive a few days after you get home.

Of course don't come crying to me if it goes tits up, but why should it? Nearly every other tourist coming back from NY will have a camcorder in their bag.

Very good point! - It's been almost confirmed for the NTSC version, but a) not 100% sure and b) not for PAL version. For NTSC version there is no 4 fps if the japanese traduction (see this forum) is correct, but I would just love to have as well the 4fps rate as also a rate as high as possible....

Eine vollständige und endgültige Liste wäre wunderbar.... wenn ich nicht zu spät dran bin...

Gruss - Cici

Well said! :)

I would also suggest a visit to Hong-Kong. It's Pal and its tax free. Beware certain shops tough!

What about the service if you have problems with a HVX that you bought in Hong Kong and you live and use it in Europe? - Will they accept the camera for service at your Panasonic distributor? - Not to forget: there ARE some little differences between a HVX200 made in Europe and a HVX200 made in Asia... even if it's both PAL.... First of all, you d' have to check the voltage - and I don't know whether a camera from a country with lower voltage would work in a country with higher voltage - even if you exchange the battery etc. - I need a 100 Euro power transformer for getting US-devices work here in Switzerland. It's a 10 pound heavy machine that transforms up to 1000 Watt from 240V (Switzerland) to 110V (USA).

So, using in Europa a chinese camera with a chinese battery is surely no problem - but how do you want to recharge the battery? - Perhaps there's a solution, but I don't know neither any nor do I know the voltages of other PAL countries and would be afraid that the smallest detail I didn't think of could be a huge problem when I want to use a "foreign" camera in my country.

Some cons (the only one?) & also pro...P2 points!

Is it (un)necessary to add something to Steve's post?!...

Yes, it's a real problem but also it's NOT impossible handle with it. You are an american producer with your 24p/60i cam and if you'd be here (in Europe) it will be the same, isn't it?

The same to you ceci as chinese producer 'cause it's simple to any electronics technical service to handle with this sort of incompatibilities, at least in my country (I hope so...that I'm sure SPZ may answer it!)

I know there aren't all the NTSC problems but...hope it helps: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=37517&page=2&pp=10

Not all we have a company...nor we are only europeans nor...

If you are able to buy a PAL version in B&H, it will likely be 220-240 volts and the same as a european version. I wouldn't have thought there would be any demand for a PAL 110 volt version.

As for repair, well as there are no moving parts, there is "not likely" to be anything go wrong. Of course if you drop it.....that's a different matter. But Panasonic shoould have a world wide repair service for its professional wing.

Beware when trying to smuggle it in is all I say!

Steve a friend of mine did just that: bought a handycam (mind you a cheap onechipper!!!) in Tokyo. sent the box via mail to his cousin.

well the box got opened up. the office of his cousin and his home got raided by customs and my friend was arrested at the airport when he did not declare the camera. this was for a cam that is only a few hundred bucks!! the EU is tightening their customs and everything coming from China, Japan and the US is suspicious.

Now i know of another guy who is a photographer. he bought his cam in the US (a 5.000 dollar beast) and all went fine at first. but next time he flew out of the EU (can´t remember where) they asked for the camerabill and busted him on the importtax and fined him. i think he was allowed to keep the cam though ;-)

it does not have to go like this and i know many who bought stuff abroad (me included), but before i lay my 6000 out i want to know if i get away with it.
if you will stay within the EU all your HVXs life and you are able to bring it in. ok. but make sure you have a plan B when trying to shoot in Turkey or Marocco or US or Australia or even Norway etc.

I personally stay on hold with this and I might buy with Rush or B&H. But I will then import it officially. At the moment the currency difference almost pays for the importtax as Emanuel well stated. And I still get the VAt back even when importing.

But beware when trying to smuggle it in is all I say again!

110V is only an option.... I don't have any idea how many factories of the 23 Panasonic PAL-countries will produce the HVX200 and I don't have an idea how many different voltage-types there are.... perhaps there will ONLY be 220-240V HVX200s in PAL version? - I don't know and that was only just an example - perhaps the manual will not be in my native language (as it happens when people buy PAL-cameras from internet and recieve a model from a PAL-country without manual in their language and those people start realizing why that the camera that is obviously not from Europe was so cheap...). Of course it's easy to find a manual - but that's just another example why I would first of all try to get the camera in my own country. Even if costs 100-300 Euro more.... If costs really 800 Euros less in another PAL country and the trip is either free (I anyway wanted to go there...) or cheap and together with all fees and taxes I still save more than 500 Euro - then I will start finding out, whether there are some differences with the model that would bring me in trouble.

It's the dreaded VAT which makes it so expensive. If you can buy in the States it WILL be tax free, which means in UK terms a saving of %17.5 for starters for the camera without the P2 cards, which is over $1000! With the P2 the saving is $1750!

With the dollar so weak at the moment, the saving is even more than that. Probably over $2000. Now a return flight is $600 with 3 star accomodation for two nights in New York. That $1400 will buy a nice lot of extras.

Or you can buu it at home and give your government more money to squander.

Its up to you.
