HVX Battery Mount Issue

This battery mount was designed for vertical mounting. Wouldn't you want gravity pushing the contacts together? If Panny wanted to use it sideways they should have built it with a little tighter tollerence. Mine has way too much wiggle room for it's weight. Scary.

Here is another point for conversation....
I have the use of two HVX's. One is around two months old for my day job and the other one for my personal use that I bought this week. The battery mount area was modified on the new one with two small stubs pointing down from the top of the mount area. They don't touch the battery but come close. I still put the velcro on just in case.
Cheers,

Do the batteries offered on this site not have this issue. Barry/Jarred maybe you can commend on this?

They are actually worse... we had to stop using them. They worked GREAT with the DVX but this new way of mounting the battery causes issues with the DVX battery...

ash =o)

Kurt, are you saying the HVX came that way, or that you modified it?
It came that way from Panasonic. The stubs are formed in the plastic. I'll try to send pics later.

Yes, please don't forget to post some pics of that. Thanks.

Here are the Panasonic battery mount modifications on my HVX with a little velcro for good meassure.

Now that looks slightly alluring and revealing. HVX - after dark... woo hoo.

I'm gonna give mine some fluff too... thanks for showing!

It would seem Panasonic has quietly made changes. Have those who have had their unit repaired found this design?

Did they not make a notch at the bottom?
I can only detect two at the top and one on the side.
I thought in most cases the mounting broke at the top so to me I would have designed the notches at the bottom to releave the strain at the top but then again I am not a designer.

It would be nice to know starting from which serie number they changed the battery bay.
Jan can you confirm that they made this design change only recently?

Wow, my HVX does not have those extra tabs. Looks like I'll be going velcro. :)

Just wondering if the hard side of the velcro would be better than the fuzzy side? Aren't we trying to eliminate stress/movement? Kind of like the concept of putting in ceramic tiles...no movement prevents cracking.

The fuzzy side seems like it would do little, as the battery can still move, sure in a dampened fashion, but it seems as if the total amount of deflection would be nearly the same, upto the point of fracture, and then be dampened after the fact.

I could be wrong, but just a quick thought.

The velcro makes for a nice snug fit.....I've had two cameras to play with, one with velcro and one without while I was working it out. The play is definitely there without the velcro. The battery slides in a little stiffly with it. I think my only concern after using it for a bit is heat dissipation from the battery. I think using the minimum amount of velcro to get a nice fit is the way to go. By the way the tabs do not seem to help much with stabilizing the battery. They don't touch it except when it is pushed in that direction.

someone wanna show me what the non-tabbed ones look like so I know if I have to add some velcro or not?

....see the velcro on top?....the two tabs that we're talking about are on either side of that velcro. Mine doesn't have them.

I wonder what the incidence of this is.

Also wonder how Panasonic repairs the problem, ie does the company replace the tabs with the new configuration?
