hvx and sales tax in CA

If one wants to buy the hvx from a california vendor but avoid sales tax, what are the qualifications for the exemption?
 
Cash, and a disreputable dealer?

Purchase by a tax-exempt Non-Profit Organization?

You can get a good discount on sales tax for production equipment, but you still gotta pay some! Talk to the folks at EVS for info...
 
If you live outside California, and they ship it to you outside California, they won't collect tax.

Only if you go in-store and pick it up, or have it shipped to a California address, will they charge tax.

Ah, you didn't say you weren't in Cali... Congress has been kind enough to keep interstate internet purchases tax-free for a while longer...

One thing so many people forget is that every state has a "use tax" that requires the payment of for any purchase out of state

For us, we always pay it because it just isn't worth being audited over, particularly for a $8K purchase.

It's only tax free for being taxed in the originating state.

You still have to pay a use tax in your state.
