HVX-200A Issues

I just purchased a new HVX-200A. On my first shoot the camera freezed up with a white screen. It wouldn't power down. I manually unplugged the power source and after that the camera behaved normally. Should I be concerned? Is this common? Should I attempt to get a replacement?

Thanks

Chris

Any computer could lock up and the HVX-200a does have a computer inside it. My cell phone once locked up on me, it never did it again.

The big question is, "Will the camera do it again to you???"

At this point, its hard to say if it was just a weird quirk OR a real problem. I would suggest try recording several test shots. Just set the camera in record mode and film your home, office, or anything. Use the zoom and whatever else you used when the camera locked up.

If after running several test shots, the camera locks up, go directly to your dealer and see what they can do.

If the camera seems to work OK, try some more test shots on a different day. Does it seem to be OK?

If the problem was just a random glitch, you will not see it happen. However, if there's something wrong, it very likely to happen again very soon. So, try running the camera as much as you can the first few weeks.

I hope this helps,

i just got my 200a a few weeks ago. if that happened to me, i'd be sending that bad boy back asap. it's still under warantee dude. why even risk not sending it back?

Thanks for the prompt feedback guys. I'm just a regular guy and not a broadcast station. So $5200 is a lot of coin for me.
I left a message with the Panasonic repair person in L.A. I'll let you know what the outcome is. Thanks again, and any other feedback will be very welcome.

I had two cameras permanently lock up and returned both to the place where I purchased. Why get warranty repair work done on a brand new camera that should be functioning properly in the first place? If you have the option, return it for a refund or exchange it for a brand new one.
My 'third' camera is doing just fine now. I am glad that I didn't settle for a repair job.

Call your dealer. If you send it in for repair then they will repair it. If it is a brand new camera, your dealer can negotiate with Panaosnic for a replacement. That is if it is a US product, and you have all of the packing materials.

Best,

Who are these guys in Los Angeles? Do you have a number? I have an unrelated repair to get done.
