HVX-200 Europe

And, as already mentioned in a post earlier: You pay it but you deduct it 1:1 (and even get paid BACK if you don't have enough to deduct!). VAT is a VAULE ADDED tax, not a SALES tax. If I do pay VAT I don't give a damn, because I either get it back or deduct it... or I do create MORE VALUE (=income) and can easily pay it!

C) VAT has NOTHING to do with other taxes like income taxes or "writing something off"

That is what I was already trying to explain, but some did not get it. Someone even said that you NEED a accountant to deduct VAT, but you may off course do your own administration if you like it or have time left. Anyway, for me the VAT (BTW 19%) get paid back if I didn´t make enough sales.

As I said before and I know yet what I'm saying :

I follow your point. But as I said before, I don't know how it works at all the european countries. In the tax systems that I know, nor all PROfessionals have their interest as VAT registered (...)
I'm working in film business since 1989 and as PROFESSIONAL since 1993/94 accrossing three different european countries and, at least, in two of them that's the way it works:

But by now WE are 25 countries in the European Union, so... :)

Xray : can you sent me an e-mail at artivideo@chello.nl how you can deduct the VAT in The Netherlands if you are not making profit at all . I am very curious how it works especially if it is not once main income source!!

520 posts in two months? you are working hard indeed:grin:
But hey , I´m not here to show you the way at all. It seems that it is like that in Netherlands and Germany, but so united the EU is not.

Cees: kijk op belastingdienst.nl of kvk.nl voor regelingen, ik werk (15 jaar) als zelfstandig ondernemer en niet als freelancer.

Cees, I sent you an email so you can visit my website, you find there information about me, my company, and the projects and films I made. ( my first documentary I shot in 1987 in Amsterdam "Een moment").

Yup my fellow!...with this, there are 523 during the last two months and a half...but regarding your signature, you must well know this season work that it is THIS business [but not for all considering the media convergence...] Or are you a theoretical partner, too? If so, please, similar than Cees, your fellow dutch and my fellow european, send me your CV and maybe «I have to employ you»...

Really?

Right.

EDIT - BTW, if you wish, you can send me the same info that you sent to Cees regarding your film work...as I said, if you wish...«and maybe I have to employ you»...

I am sorry to inform you that we are only working with professionals and despite your uncalled offer we can not invite you. Reading your contributions on this site we have not the believe that you are one of them. I wish you luck with your request.

And although I understand your disappointment, I wish you a good new year!

Im VAT registered, so it doesnt bother me, but what does bother me is WITHOUT VAT, the HVX will be $1100 more expensive in the UK.

Import duties, blah blah. If they stick to this price it's just clearly wrong. But we will see.

You are not the only one here nor - if you said - that are used to work with PRO despite your fall without net.

Reading your contributions on this site we have not the believe that you are one of them.
"We" or you?!...

I thought that you were the only one that did tax assumptions here . Ah...yes, I'm forgetting that you are the only one that knows how it works @my home...

and despite your uncalled offer we can not invite you. (...) I wish you luck with your request. (...) And although I understand your disappointment
You don't recognize your OWN words!... Don't you? LINK

I just have two advices to you, if you wish or not. If you want an equal basis, you must give me a real name and not to speak SO (with a hostile speech like that) from a hidden nick name. The web is a funny medium, isn't it?

Concerning my case, I don't know if Vila do Conde International Short Film Festival LINK is cognisable to you or RTP LINK (the national TV of my native country - BTW, until now, I've been paying taxes regarding there and maybe you cannot know me but I can tell you - believe it or not - that the chief of my tax jurisdiction knows me quite well...unfortunately or maybe not :)) or I Cento Passi LINK - only three prizes @Venice Film Festival (including Best Screenplay). Or Fernando Ghia? (1997/98) [the italian producer of The Mission LINK with De Niro & J. Irons, with who I studied] Or maybe you prefer a more known name as Christopher Vogler (1998) or @yours, George Sluizer? (a dutch director/writer/producer who worked with Jeff Bridges in his hollywood remake, The Vanishing LINK). I began @arthouse production as apprentice with his partner, Carlos da Silva (1997). Or even José Álvaro Morais, one of the best promises of the european cinema - the future Manoel de Oliveira for my country fellows - missed unfortunately. Or crossing Europe, several media entities with I've been in touch LINK (Italy) or LINK (Spain)...OK! It's enough @here. But if it will be necessary I can send you @PM my academics/qualifications CV or even more links regarding my PROfessional experience at different levels and not only @film or TV, like the two higher education institutions where I've been working as lecturer at the media department (where it teaches filmmaking), for instance. Concerning the future...

I'm sorry my fellow but you hurt my feelings - if it is possible to say it... :undecided  - and the work that I'm proud since a dozen years ago. Nevertheless, your signature reveals a lot about your superior :cheesy: haughtiness . Or are you the «truth owner» and I am the only one that doesn't know? LOL

But my considerations I save them to me because definitely you wouldn't like them posted here and to read what I think about the way you are posting here @this thread - 'cause the other ones I don't remember any one...

But if you wish I'm available @private messaging or if you prefer I can give you there my phone number or even I can invite you to visit me @one of my places, that is, @my office. And there, you can see through your own eyes as Saint Thomas. But at one sole point, you're right: I'm not a techie, as I've been saying that it's not my field.

And although (...) your disappointment, I wish you a good new year!
The same to you. Concerning the future and specifically considering the HVX goal that this sub-forum is about (isn't it?)...and as I've been saying, I wish luck...to both. :)

Hi xray : many thanks in advance for the info. I will have a look at your site:beer:

please, could we get back to things that really matter? i don`t care about things like tax and co until we know the true value of the cam. we should really worry about things like 24p support and show the panasonic euro reps, what`s really important for true indie filmmaker.

Right! About this superior concern, it was discussed here:

ould not get an NTSC cam in PAL, because you will open a can of worms with it. it is simply not worth it. wait for the final prices and then look for the cheapest place in europe to get it. if you are able to deduct VAT (i do, because we are buying it commercially) then find the country with the highest VAT....

And what about NTSC version in Europe?
Any problems with 50Hz lights and 1/24 shooter speed?
About that concern: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showpost.php?p=331784&postcount=13

Here's two useful reports:

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, so appologies for potentially re-asking questions that have probably been sufficiently answered.

Anyhow, I've been dying to start shooting my own video/hd projects, and am looking towards a purchase of the HVX200. However I have recently purchased an Apple 20inch iMac G5 (iMovieHD)
Question 1: Is this computer powerfull enough to handle capturing and editing HD ( I will not initially be using it for proffessional aplications, and do not mind waiting!)
Question 2: Can I just use the camera and Firewire cable to download DV and or HD straight to my computer, or will I need expensive P2 Stores or Drives.
Question 3 : Is iMovie HD an apprpriate application for editing. (Bearing in mind I do not rate flashy-editing effects, and the majority of cuts will take place in-camera)

PS. Sorry to diverge all from the import/vat and 24p debates, but an answer to these fundamental querries would be greatly appreciated.

Much respect,
jasond

Hey Jasond!

The Search engine (top, right of the middle) will take you great places...

No disrespect...

No disrespect taken, ic47.

Just came accross that Search option after I blitzed several forumns!
With my el-basico questions.

Ciao
