HVX-200 1080 import to FCP giving me issues.

Hello.

I need help. Maybe someone out there knows the answer. I recently shot some footage using the 200. We shot on 1080 24p. We imported everything. I have been editing for a few weeks now, but noticed that a lot of my footage has a gitter to it. Almost as if I needed to use the 24PA pulldown. But since we shot on HD 1080 24P we used that import.

You can see the jitter alot on some shots, but NOT as much as you can see it playing back on a monitor. Every shot on the monitor shows the jitter. I have tried copying the timeline on to another sequence changing it to many different settings but I am still getting this.

Any of you know what I am doing wrong? Or was this an issue with the P-2 card I used?

Which version of FCP is important.

How did you import, because FCP 6.0.2 uses a log and capture process?

So to assess what you may be doing wrong, we need details on what you have done.

Can't see your workflow from here.

For example, did you set a preference to remove advanced pulldown in the log and transfer modal box? And what did you actually shoot? 24p or 24pa?

I imported to FCP 6. I shot 1080 24P. When I imported I used log and capture.

There was nothing set to remove the advance pulldown because we didn't shoot advance. Should we have still used the preference?

Is there anything you know that can fix the problem now inside of FCP? Or do I need to import again....which is a problem because the footage is long gone.

I'm having a similar problem, see here:

My problem is that even though I shot 24p, its showing up in the bin as 30p, is yours doing the same?

I imported to FCP 6. I shot 1080 24P. When I imported I used log and capture.

Never shoot with 1080/24p if you're planning on ingesting into FCP. FCP does NOT have a capture preset for 1080/24p.

FCP's only preset for 24fps footage is 1080/24pA. Use ONLY that setting when shooting.

You're right. The footage is long gone. There's nothing you can really do other than re-shoot. At least not if you want it to look half-decent.

While I haven't tried it, you might be able to convert from 1080p to 1080pA in Edius (albeit as an AVI file) -- I'll check that this evening and will report back.

I tried a couple of different things but had no luck.

While Edius supports editing P, PA and PN, you can't specify the pulldown format when creating a DVCProHD AVI file.

Next I tried taking the 1080/24p test project and printing it back to the camera through Firewire while having the camera set to 1080/24pA. It did record and the video plays flawlessly, but I'm not sure what pulldown format the camera actually used -- viewing the file properties in P2 Viewer shows the pulldown as "OTHER" instead of "2:3" or "2:3:3:2".

It might be worth trying a similar approach with FCP. If you have a small clip that you want me to try to convert this way for you and put back in P2/MXF format, please PM me and give me information on where I can download the files.
