Holy Marry mother of Christ! I can't belive that Sony finaly put out a product with true progressive. The color rendering is freaking 4:4:2. It's 1920x1080!

No image sensor size.

These camcorders are to big for 1/4" sensors. Why would they put 1/4" chips in and ruin these cameras. Camcorderinfo got the information wrong, didn't they? Someone tell me they screwed up.

Yeah, the price will be roughly £3000.

I have some doubts, I don't think it is true progressive and how do you get 4:2:2 on HDV minidv tape?

Sony is definitely saying the chips are true progressive and are recorded to a 50i stream (kinda like the DVX I suppose).

"1080/50i and 25p (progressive scan) acquisition
For the first time, Sony has introduced progressive scan acquisition to its professional HDV camcorder range. In addition to typical 50i, the HVR-V1E offers 25P progressive scan capture. This is ideal for those who wish to create a more cinematic look and feel to their productions and lends itself particularly well to those film-makers with smaller budgets. The 25p scan images are recorded at 50i, and can be played back using existing HDV1080/50i HDV products. In addition, 25p scan footage from the HVR-V1E is supported by major NLEs (Non-Linear Editors) such as Sony, Adobe, Apple, Avid and Canopus."

It's not 4:2:2. Read carefully... "internal processing" is 4:2:2, which is nice for in-camera color/gamma/gain settings, but it'll still go 4:2:0 to tape. Not sure why they couldn't do internal processing at 4:4:4, though.

Wtf, though. Two HDV cameras? No AVC-HD applications?

I don't even trust Sony brand... and even at a low price-tag it'd be hard to snare me as a customer without really offering something DIFFERENT.

Whoa! With the FX7, the first thing that came to my mind was "Sony just doesnt get it, does it?" But now things are suddenly different. This is mighty interesting. Lets hope we see some clarification at IBC!

Good point.

I'm kind of confused. After sony showed up those toy AVCHD cameras I thought that would be the format they would adopt from now on. I feel kind of reluctant in spending like 4500€ on something that will probably be obsolete in a year. I'm expecting Panasonic to strike back with something massive.

4500$? I thought It would be somewhere around 3500$ like the FX-7. Where did you get the price from?

Different like the hvx200? Anyway early days yet, wait til it comes out, and the xh a1 and G1 , wait for tests and results and then we can reach a decision. However, by the sounds of it, IF it does what it says on the tin, then we're in for a bargain.

the HVR-V1 kind of looks like the Sony A1
