Does anyone have any experience mixing HDV footage (specifically 24p from an HV40) and DVCPRO HD or Apple ProRes together in FCP 6? Does it work in the multiformat timeline?

I have an upcoming project that might make use of both formats. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have and it works fine. Although I transcode everything to the same format (ProRes) for editing. You don't have to worry about renders so much when you edit (although you will get larger file sizes).

Hope that helps.

best workflow really depends on what the majority of the footage is in. If it is mostly dvcpro HD, with just a little hdv b-roll, I would just transcode the hdv to match and keep the other native. If it is a more equal mix, then batching all to pro-res would probably be better.

I like to do a simple straight cuts edit on an open timeline, and then trans-code select takes to pro-res if there is going to any major rendering stuff.
