No 24p in SD mode, no. If you wanted that you'd have to record 24p in HDV mode and then set it to downconvert to DV when capturing.
Basically, yes. Capture on your computer and you'd have 25p DV.lets say i wanted 25p in SD (pal) i just record 1080p, set cam to play mode, set the output on the hv20 to DV. and record that in a DV timeline, and i would have SD 25p ?
Thanks for the replies.
I guess I wanted to know how the HV20 is on shooting standard definition because of HDV's lackluster performance in lowlight/night. SD DV seems like it would almost be a better option at night, but I don't know how the HV20 will do in standard def since it is only a 1chip cmos.
thanks.

In the US version it converts the MPEG-2 HD stream to a DV stream. There's always 2:3 pulldown in the recording, so there's nothing new there; it goes from 1080i to 480i but the frame/field sequence is identical. It still doesn't add the pulldown flags so Vegas or other 24p-aware editors still can't automatically extract the pulldown. Vegas has the ability to manually extract pulldown if you tell it the exact offset (0 to 4) to use, but I found that it can't cross multiple clips and still work, the pulldown offset changes between clips.
But yes, I've done it, it works. Cannot speak for the PAL model but in the PAL model there's no pulldown at all so I can't conceive of why it wouldn't work too.
...Vegas has the ability to manually extract pulldown if you tell it the exact offset (0 to 4) to use, but I found that it can't cross multiple clips and still work, the pulldown offset changes between clips...
the off set could be different on each clip ( if you had vegas break it up - like scene detection - so you have to manulally find it for each clip) ....
however if you capture whole tape and you used record/stop many times during shooting then the pull down could be different (every time the camera was put into record/stop) in different sections of the file !!... so there would not be one setting for whole tape .. you would have to break up the clip by rendering it into smaller sections = use the scene detection like setting when you capture HDV in Vegas ..
also note that once you set Vegas to manually remove pull down for any clip that Vegas will remove pull down any time you use that clip in ANY PROJECT !!
so if you drop the clip into a 29.97 project 3 months later 1st Vegas will remove the pull down ( actually i think VFW removes it) , then 2nd - Vegas will add pull down ( = CPU usage wasted)
