"Finally, it really does truly amaze me that people are making this a political and/or racial deal..."

First of all; if it was an affluent white suburb you'd bet your ass help would have been there already. People are getting in by Bass boats. CNN Reporters are getting there faster than what the FEDS are doing.

Second of all; Bush should have been making decisions Tuesday morning. That man and the current administration are a bunch of circus performers. This man should have stepped up on Tuesday and got it done. It's Friday morning and now help is arriving? This **** was not only predicted earlier this year but just a week ago they knew this Cane was coming in. The Horses should have been lined up at the gate since last week. Hell, even X-Check posted in this thread at 08-31-2005, 09:08 AM already asking questions and showing concern for the situation. X-Check is the man and all; but he ain't no prophet.

It is underwater. How do you tell a half-million people to find someplace else to live? This city was formed in the 1700's and although there has been flooding and constant battles with the pumping and levees over the centuries.... When was the last time this took place? Maybe New York shouldn't have built those Twin Towers so tall and those planes wouldn't have hit them; or maybe those people in Los Alamos should have cut the trees down around their homes, or San Francisco should have made the buildings farther apart so the Great Fire didn't wipe them.....................................

Hello? It's a NATURAL DISASTER man. Come on.

Overland

Man you summed up perfectly how I feel. Nice take on the subject.

Put your money where your mouth is and empty your bank accounts, Those people were told to get out and chose not to.

Alot of those people did not have a choice, they could not afford to leave, they were stuck there, they had no other options.

thought some of you would be interested in listening to the mayor of New Orleans, lots of great points.

That oughta put it in perspective for you.

At least the media is doing its job, something I havent seen for a while since this administration had it wrapped around its finger for the past 5 years.

I know its horrible to talk politics in this time of chaos and despair, but that's what it ultimately boils down to, bad policies, bad leadership, equals very bad situation, no matter who the president is.

Come on John,,,it's easy to sit back and blame Bush. But the fact is it is a state and they are in charge. Turns out they didn't have much of a plan. So now a guy who can get the job is taking control and George will get it done. You see the massive effort when he says go.

He should have know that some little flunky mayor and some women gov of that state could get anything done. But it is there job and if they need help they ask the Feds. That is the way it works.

Mississipi was hit even harder by the storm and a 25 foot tidel wave. They are getting there **** together pretty fast. They had a plan........

If you need to blame some one blame those who had no plan for their state or the city of New Orleans.

and John,,,,,lets not forget this was a massive diaster. It overwhelmed the whole system.

If this gets political and/or divisive, it will have to be closed.

Why? isn't this Cafe ala DVX? A little politics isn;t going to hurt....but I agree that this diaster should be about politics. It should be about how to get the mess cleaned up and help the people down there. But the Bush haters can't help but blame Bush for everything. It;s too bad

Waters have gone from the mississippi gulf coast. New Orleans is still flooded. New Orleans and Lousiana have asked the feds for help over the past 10 years, no matter who was in office to get higher levees build, all presidents actually cut down the funding on them, and helped make the situation even worse by encouraging real estate promotors to build all along the wetlands which used to be a protective barrier for hurricanes. This disaster didnt just hit a week ago, it brewed for the past 20 years. And when you spent 6 billions a month in Iraq, thats 6 billions cut from domestic programs, which doesnt really help.

Because we have a strict "no politics" rule here.

It's not Bush hating; don't be paranoid. It's simply put, what franck just illustrated:

"...it ultimately boils down to bad policies and bad leadership that equals into a bad situation no matter who the president is."

I'll blame the Mayor as fast as the Feds on this one. The 'People in charge' have dropped the ball.

And don't compare this to Mississippi. It's horrible what has happended there as well but they 'ain't got' 50,000 stranded on an island dying of starvation and thirst.

"It overwhelmed the whole system"
And doesn't it make you feel warm and fuzzy that no one at any level was prepared to deal with it? Even with the advanced warning and predictions? Even with the weeks notice that it was gonna hit? Don't you feel good a bunch of incompetents are running the show?

If you feel content that 'They' are doing everything they can that's okay. Some of us like to question. Someone has too.

..the question i keep asking myself, is why it seems like none of the people took it upon themsleves to stock up basic supplies and rescources, and have some sort of plan if they knew they were going to have to stay there and try and ride it out.. ? im not really blaming them for thier own misfortuneat all believe me.. im sending money and doing what i can cause i care. but they had as much warning as the authorities did, and for some reason it seems like absolutely nobody had more than one non-perishable meal.. if that or any water and supplies packed up and ready to stick it out.. even though they knew theyed be there through and after a nasty hurricane. it just boggles me. id have large pelican case or two stuffed full of survival stuff days in advance for my fam... and a shotgun in my hand for those hellbent gang losers if i knew i was going to be in a hurricane and the aftermath... theres always looting.. always hunger.. always thirst.. on some level. this time its just on a much larger scale.. but .. anyway.. ill just send money and prayers. thats all i can do for now.

I'll echo what John said - this isn't a point your finger at the right or left issue. My post was directed at the Democrat governor and Republican president in equal doses.

If anything, this is a discussion of bureaucracy and how the government has directly failed the people of the Gulf of Mexico and America in a more collective and general way.

There is something sensational about seeing trees bent sideways and a roof flying off of a gas station during a hurricane, but the images coming out these past days have my stomach in knots.

I sent my daughter to school this morning with an envelope full of any money we could find around the house for their hastily conceived school district-wide Katrina Fund and just about broke down after she'd left. The Red Cross office a block from my home has triple the cars you'd normally see jammed into its parking lot - so I'm heartened to think that we are again coming together at the grassroots level.

It makes me sick to think about the conditions our countrymen are suffering under only a couple hundred miles away. In the meantime, I hear locals complaining about gas prices when they have nowhere important to go.

Well put Neil

I agree! My wife and I have all of the basic supplies for packing out if need be (Just think an REI wet-dream). I like to think 'd be going down that road if need be.

Another question is; all of these people were sent to the Superdome on Sunday night and there were no cots and no water and foodstuffs there. That's kind of weird. Yeah Zim; I'll blame the Mayor just as much as the Feds on this gig. No wonder the Mayor is screaming foul; he knows he screwed up. The Mayor, The Governor, The President. You name it; they all screwed up.

Like Overland says; it's simply an illustration of the bureacracy in this country.

Overland

We think too much alike. Cool.

iamloser: The hurricane hit at the end of the month. That's usually a pretty bad time money wise. Knowing that most people that stayed back live below poverty level. Hell even myself, like right now eat on a dollar a day. If you got no money to leave town, you probably have no money to stack up on supplies either.

Bush is right now taking the mayor of New Orleans on a helicoper ride of the city. I bet that guy is glad to see GWB.

Zim!

Look at this dumbass:

(See video of CNN asking why FEMA is clueless about conditions -- 2:11)

http://www.cnn.com/video/player/pla...ftv/2005/09/02/soledad.fema.brown.katrina.cnn

Now tell me to my face they're doing everything they can? This guy is literally sitting there like a moron. Soledad is like 'Dude. Bro.'

If I was interviewing him I'd say:

"Mr Brown. Why is it that Jerry X Check of DVXUSER.COM knew Tuesday morning that the situation was dire and FEMA did not?"

Look at his face as she drills him; you literally see his turning into a shade of red (No really; watch)

She's like "Dude. We had Air Drops in Indo-freakin-Nesia in 48 hours!" and he's like "Well, that's what we intend to do."

Now that is classic vintage news-reporting. But hey; they're doing all they can.

So John you are saying they were smart in Indosnisa but they are not smart now. The are dumb as a box of rocks, but wait you are saying they were really smart to get supplies overseas in 48 hours.

John I saw troops, coast guard in the as soon as the storm past.

John it looks like the feds were smart in Mississippi and Ala but dumb in New Orleans.

John thousands of people did not listen and stayed at home. Some to loot was the reason they stayed home others because they couldn't leave their pets. Some just couldn't.

The storm past and everything looked ok. Then the levees broke and people were trapped. It's a mess. But I think the government is doing a good job. Maybe they can do better but when gangs are shooting at helicopter, looting , raping robbing it slows it down even more.

John I'm wondering what you would have done?

I just saw were somewhere in New Orleans armed gangs have snipers shooting at a building keeping a 100 firemen and there families pinned inside a buildiing. They have killed two police. I guess the gangs are trying to loot a building.

I'm sorry, but these people need to be killed. People can say Bush and his people are dumb and anything they want, but look what they are up against.

I've heard the gang problem in New Orleans is bad. This is a good chance to take them out for good.

Bush call in the Navy Seals!!

Wow, ****in Mau-Mau land...

I had no idea it was this bad (I gave money, I hadn't heard much about it at my school) until I got a ride from a kid and we were listening to the radio... damn, Zim - that ****'s crazy... wild wild west
