In spite of whatever shortcomings we have in our government on both sides of the aisle, at the heart of America are people who would give you the shirt off their backs.

...

Where are those f-ing Saudis today?

Well said, gentlemen. Looters=losers.

If people are looting grocery stores for much-needed food and drink, I could understand. But looting TVs after your city's been destroyed? Gas stations gouging people in need? And snipers firing at hospitals!? That's insane.

I think other countries are less likely to help since they see America as such a rich country. Sort of like if Bill Gates' house burned down, I wouldn't give him any cash or offer him my spare room. Of course, as a country we may be rich, but most of those people who lost everything are not.

The vidoes of the moms and babies/children is heartbreaking. I cant ****ing beleive they cant air-drop Water and MRE's to the Superdome/Convention Center....

Is it that ****ing hard? Babies are dying from deydration. OMG.

My wife just talked to one of her reps in NC and says gas is like $4.00 a gallon? And the wells are starting to run dry?

Bush needs to Price Freeze now. Oh wait; he owns gas companies doesnt he?

I've just been reading reports of the anarchy sweeping the city. People getting raped, beaten, and robbed. Police being pushed back by angry mobs with guns. Dead bodies out in the open while babies cry for food. Man, this is insane. I literally feel sick to my stomach right now. We are going about our normal lives while this is happening in our own country. Bring in whatever army is left in this country. Get these people some food, water, and safety, now!

Aid is getting in, but it's not enough fast enough. A buddy of mine down at Warner Robbins AFB said that they'd loaded over 1,300 tons of bottled water, food, other materials (blankets, clothing, generators, etc) and medical supplies to be flown to N.O. in the last 2 days. That's about a month's worth of stuff being flown to Iraq.

BTW, the Red Cross is in desperate need of blood, if you've got it to spare.

The rest of the world is always willing to help, I would be more worried about the US adminstration being ill prepared and having given up funding on the levees because of the war in Iraq.
Nice article on msnbc: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9161198/
Bush says “I’m not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn’t asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars" even tho foreign countries do offer help.
I'm very worried about living under this administration. This catastrophe is just another example of how they handle things in a complete incompetent manner. There is a difference between what one says and does. The people in power havent learned that when they were kids.
They ignored expert opinions telling them over and over again that new orleans levees would not hold, even a much smaller hurricane. Maybe it was too much "hard work" for this administration.... geez
Just my $0.02

It's hard to believe that New Orleans doesn't exist anymore. I was thinking about that today. I've never been there, and it will never look the same.

There are few countries set-up to aid the US in instances such as Katrina - count them on one hand: Japan, China, EU... and the Aussies are always good to us to whatever extent possible. Where are those f-ing Saudis today?

Counting their money..................

I was just wondering what the response from our government would have been if this was Marin County California (median household income: $71,306, 84.03% white, 2.89% African American) or Fairfield County Connecticut (median household income: $77,690, 79.31% white, 10.01% African American) instead of New Orleans (median household income, $27,133, 28.05% white, 67.25% African American)?

I just cant believe it took the government almost 3 1/2 fukcing days to respond to those people in that super dome...thats sad..no food or water for those people. There were people dropping dead in the front of the super dome like flys because of lack of food and water. Only today towadrs the end of the day did it take them to send help. I'm about to close an evenvelope enclosed with 100 dollars and send it to the Red Cross for those victims. Because if the government has to take forever to get their asses moving...someone should try and start helping those people.

I mean...we sent food and water to other war torn countries at 2 days max after a war or riot started or some natural disaster. An example is Sri Lanka...America sent supplies and everything in like 2 days after that thing hit..including bulldozers too. But they cant do the same for their own people that are much much closer to the White House.

And it took the other countries around the world a while to relize that they should help us...even though we are the dominiant super power in the world..it doesnt mean that we cant use any help eitehr....and WTF IS WITH THESE GAS PRICES!! $4.00?!?!?!? WTF!?!? I CANT GO ANYWHERE WITH THOSE PRICES!!

Those stupid gas companies are taking advantage of this Katrina situation. I know theres a big refinery in that city that was flooded out..but that doesnt mean gas companies dont have to jack up the price a whole 75 cents in 2 days. It's price gauge to the max!!! and 500 dollar fines isnt gonna do anything to those gas pumps because they could easily make about 5,000 + dollars in one day alone....its ridiculous!!

The images on tv are frightening. Complete bridges whiped out. Hotels collapsed into the ocean. Entire neighborhoods underwater. You see this kind of stuff on tv and you can't imagine what it must be like for the people directly effected by it. Everything gone in a few hours. Sad.

But don't worry, the new energy policy, which just become law, via executive pen swipe, includes LUCRATIVE TAX BREAKS FOR OIL COMPANIES!!!

Those poor Oil Companies, we can't let them live on record profits alone, they have to have tax breaks for god sakes!!! Of course, they will pass those saving on to the consumer, right?

Do you really think the price is really going to go down alot? maybe like 20 cents...woopy doo...still paying about $75.00 at the pump for a 6 cylinder car..and trucks are monsters on gas.

No I do not think that prices are going to come down. However, anyone that thinks that these prices are the result of pure free market supply and demand is as crazy and very ill-informed.

We are way off topic here, and I appologize.

My heart goes out to the people of the Gulf Coast. Our prayers are with you.

I've never been more saddened, disgusted, and outraged by my nation's leaders than this week. I couldn't care less if someone is stealing a television - yes, that's wrong but it's not costing anyone their life. And even cops on duty are looting water because there is no other option. THE LOOTING IS NOT THE STORY HERE. That people are dying in the streets because we can't get basic supplies - water and first aid to people in CONSOLIDZATED AREAS! I mean - you know where to find them - convention center and super dome - where you told them to go! They are black and they are poor and, therefore, expendable. Look at your television - one white person for every 400 black people. This is possibly the most disgraceful thing I've seen in my lifetime. I give all praise to the brave FEW helping (of which I'm obviously not one) - but I'm disgusted with federal officials who haven't allocated the resources to allow others to help. I mean we've known since thurs. or friday of last week that this could be devastating, yet we couldn't have water drops ready? I've literally teared up at times watching this stuff and felt nauseous the rest.

I pray for those in need and for those helping however they can. I scorn our leaders for ignoring the most vulnerable among us.
