Hurricane Katrina

Ok - back on the soapbox::::
Another thing I forgot to point out in my rant above is the fact that Monday morning when people went outside for the first time they thought they had lucked out again. The city was really not in too bad a shape until Monday night when the levees failed. The real destruction was not caused directly by the hurricane (like in Biloxi and the rest of the gulf coast) but the subsequent levee failure.
The help will continue to be too slow also because of the fact that right now there is really only one way into New Orleans from the west on I-10. All other highways are shut down/destoyed.

Mav- I guess you kind of missed the point of my rant above or just don't care. Blaming the gov. (at any level) does NO good.

:::off soapbox ....again....

I think most cities must have better plans for when a major disaster like this happend. Help takes time and you further away the longer the time. How you deal localy with the problem the first 24 hours are going to have a huge impact on the final outcome.

But communication between those on the ground and those on the top is something that must be improved.

It is a bizarre series of event's and unthinkable until it happens and the images I have seen over the last 4 days have been straight out of a third world country.

The BUSH administration, the Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans oughta be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen. There are many questions that need answering after this week and the coming weeks and months of recovery. I do not doubt that NOW they are doing everything in their power.

One thing we learned this week is that FEMA is not prepared (This after 9/11) nor was the adminstration in charge for this large of a catastrophe. (even if predicted and warned of)

I am sorry about your parents home. Maybe it's time to leave New Orleans for higher
ground? (I say that respectfully and not at all in a tone and thank god they were smart enough to leave when advised). Maybe we should put this baby to rest.
