so it can do 4k , but not on FS700... only UHD?
UHD right now, 4K ProRes in the future. The vast majority only want UHD anyway.

The O7Q now has delivered 4K ProRes, here are a couple quick shots from NH.

This is a 4K file you can download, it plays as 1080
https://vimeo.com/110374186

This is a 1080 showing Slog and then a quick CC and a reframe from the 4K ProRes in FCPX, this is quick and dirty., you can download the 1080 file.

Bear in mind that even the uploaded file has been compressed by FCPX for upload to Vimeo.

Where is the bear? Only in you mind?

Where is the bear? Only in you mind?

We have bears visit our house almost every day. It is a race who gets the apples and grapes first us or the bears. I think the bears are winning this year. But soon the snow is here and the bears retreat to their dens for the winter.

Don't mean to hijack your thread at all, Olof, but I didn't feel creating my own thread for the same topic was smart either. Here's a quick reel of my test footage from today using the UHD ProRes settings. Just grabbed my camera and my lightest (and crappiest) tripod and went for an afternoon walk at a local park.

- Lens: Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens with Metabones (no speedbooster)
- Gamma: S-Log2
- Processing: Slight color adjustments in DaVinci, only for levels and saturation. Compressed using FCP X.

I just updated, and am finding that it takes way longer to swap between '4k-to-1080pProRes' and "4k-to-4kProRes"... before, it seemed as if you could store ANY two or three of the shooting modes in a quicker access ram?

- Seems that no matter what sequence of 'memory swap'-ing... FS 4k/2k RAW -> RAW (.DNG) is always available for a quick restart, no matter what I have already loaded, or are currently in
- I can only get the most recent of the 1080p OR 4K ProRes recording options to be saved in the memory, not both... Is there no way to have both 4k and 1080p ProRes be the two saved in the quick-access memory? I would much rather have the two ProRes saved in quick-swap, than the 4k/2k raw option...

*The new menu seems to be much improved! Easier to check over settings in one page, rather than having to search all over to make sure it's set properly for the specific shot/codec/frame rate/project rate/etc. Same with the info in the playlist table... great to have the details as to which clip was shot in what codec/format!

**Also, just managed to get a total freeze-up twice while changing the 'project name'... so maybe just leave that as 'project1' for now eh?

thanks for uploading your test, brazzam! it's great to see the dynamic range, color, detail...your test nailed it!

Hi everyone, here is the little test we did quickly last night to see what we were dealing with (I'm talking about the new firmware update which gives us 4k prores of course), hope it helps. There is a youtube version to watch in 4k and a vimeo version in 1080p (but you can download the original file from vimeo)

Cheers, Ganael

We're working on this.

Eyelight Kasper,

Great stuff! Thanks for posting. Did you expose the 4k raw the same as the 4k ProRes? Typically, I overexpose a stop or so in SLOG-2 (to avoid excessive noise) and I wanted to see if there is a difference in exposure need between the two. Any help would be appreciated. I have a shoot on Wed and will be working with this over the weekend.

Best,
Grant

Usually I do, but honestly I totally forgot about that going back and forth between ProRes and raw. That's why some of the slowmo shots, especially indoors, have more grain in them - I had to pull it up in post!

Here you can see how big the difference from one format to the other - same shutter - when you just dump them into Premiere:

The gamma is going to be different with DNG's and Prores. Prores is SLOG2, DNG is RAW and is displayed however the software you are using happens to debayer it and using whatever gamma it happens to use or can support. I don't know of any easy way to get DNG RAW into SLOG2 yet, which can make it quite difficult to match and cut with SLOG2 Prores or AVCHD footage.

Yeah, it would be handy if Sony provided an S-Log2 input lut or something along those lines for resolve etc.

It is really easy to build LUTs in Resolve. Just get a Macbeth color chart, there are several that work with Resolve 11. Shoot it with standard exposure you use. And then use the match setting in Resolve color board. There are several tutorials on the internet for this. It gets you very close matching different cams and PPs. You can then tweak them just a bit and then save as a LUT, that can be used in FCPX with LUTutility from colorgradingcentral.com, there is a tutorial there as well. These LUTs should work in Premier/AE as well.

If someone wants to make money off their Macbeth color chart, id be willing to buy LUTs instead of buying a chart and spend the hours doing the work myself.
