The O7Q now has delivered 4K ProRes, here are a couple quick shots from NH.

This is a 4K file you can download, it plays as 1080
https://vimeo.com/110374186

This is a 1080 showing Slog and then a quick CC and a reframe from the 4K ProRes in FCPX, this is quick and dirty., you can download the 1080 file.

Bear in mind that even the uploaded file has been compressed by FCPX for upload to Vimeo.

Looks great on our 5K iMac screen. Thanks for already getting out there and shooting a sample, Olof!

I think this was very soft.

What lens did you shoot this with? Red tree to the left is super soft.

Played it back on a NEC UHD monitor.

The top one was Canon 24-70 f2.8 L with Metabones.
The lower one that zooms in was the Kit Lens 18-200 Sony.

Bear in mind these are compressed by Vimeo and even if you DL the originals they are compressed, by FCPX. The Vimeo file plays in 1080. DL to get the UHD file.

You really have to look at the original file to get the full effect.

Yeah maybe.

However i am comparing it to a UHD timelapse from a Canon 5D. Maybe im spoiled with the extreme sharpness in those videos, even with Youtube compression! After all its 5K downsampled to UHD, and theres no motion blur etc.

Edit:

Do you have focus in the background in your shot, Olof?

I just saw my own sample from my desk with ISO 2500 and its tack sharp. Looks super nice!

Here is a screen shot from the file you can download, bear in mind this is exposed at 1/60 sec and the wind is rustling the leafs. So they do blur a bit, the pines are pretty sharp though.

Also bear in mind these are very difficult scenes to compress lots of color and detail and they have been compressed twice before downloading even, once by O7Q and then again by FCPX as ProRes422 to HQ. In my suite viewing the originals it is very sharp, if you just play the vimeo file it is heavily compressed H.264. You also can add sharpening in post if you like, that can really crispen things up.

A simples scene w/o as much color variation will compress much better. There is a difference between RAW and compressed, ProRes is compressed.

The screen shot is .jpg and also is pretty different viewed here as opposed to my screen.

Yeah i saw the pines was sharp so i thought maybe your lens have a slight shift (my Canon EF 16-35 is to service as we speak because of very soft left side, sharp center and slightly soft right side) or that it could be an issue with the reds making them blend together.

Thanks for uploading Olof! Sorry to sound like a pain. Just testing and asking and trying to learn about this new feature.

how is the 5k iMac? will it produce a lot of heat and the graphic card can handle 5k without lag?

5K iMac works great - 4Ghz/295x/32gb configuration can handle 4K FS700 (1/1res) and 6R3DRAW (1/4res) in realtime in Resolve. The new 5K display tells always the truth - HD looks like a fast-blur value 10.

sounds good! "HD looks like a fast-blur value 10" What is this mean? anyway to view 1080p in full screen on it with clear image? using scale in system preference display will help?

use the effect "fast blur" and set the value "10", then you get blurred image. that's what his mean.

I have a native UHD display. Feeling the same way about both stills photography and now FS700 UHD. Normal HD is not the same anymore. Soft and blurred.

Alan, we've been pretty happy with it. So far not too much heat, and it handles 4K DNGs nicely. We're able to just hit 1/1 res playback in premiere. If you step it down to 1/2 or 1/4 you can even get away with some effects.

The GPU seems to be working great.

4K compressed recording from Sony FS700 RAW?
UHD/4K compressed recording with 50/60 fps?

Today, after twelve months, we have a kind of arrival in the destination zone of CD's initial promises. Two valid recording options for the quad device, uncompressed and compressed. There are some more steps to have everything stable and mature. Today's release has been the important step forward, I have been waiting for. Happy about that, but still disappointed that it took this amount if time.

Great. So now that's done, what features are we supposed to be moaning about not having RIGHT NOW!!

2K (or 1080) ProRes 240fps. The RAW stuff is so ungodly huge to work with when you shoot a non stop minute of slowmotion (sports/live events) you burn through a lot of your record time. Plus dealing with the .dng... blegh. In any case that's what I've always wanted more than anything as that is the real reason I use this camera. BUT... that's just me. I'm glad we got 4K ProRes.

I'd love to see this stuff shot with a Zeiss CP.2 or Canon CinePrime! I have all the gear for this... but not the pretty fall day with the trees and the stream and the small bugs goin' buzz buzz buzz! =P

While I get that you're joking, it's hard to not ask about other features when 4K ProRes was supposed to ship with the unit nearly a year ago. I had a preorder in on the 7Q in July 2013. Received it Dec 2013 and now we're sneaking up on November 2014 and we just received a launch-day feature.

As grateful as I am for all the hard work CD has put into this device, I think questions about LUTs, Canon support, etc. are all justified.
