hung up on direct streaming to laptop

I have a new HVX-200, Premiere Pro on my laptop, and (presently) no P2 cards.

My research tells me that I cannot stream HD to the laptop, but can stream live
DV.

Is that the case and if so, does anybody know the camera/PC settings to accomplish this?

Thanks,

You can record directly to disk using FCP as long as you are not in a native recording mode.

My laptop is a PC and I use Premeire Pro, so apparently I can't stream?

The other thing I'm not yet clear on is whether or not I have to have a P2 card in the camera in order to stream to the laptop.

Any advice appreciated.

Sorry, I somehow assumed a Mac, it's what 80+ % of the HVX users have.

On a PC, there are at least two products that can record from the DV port: Canopus/Grass Valley Edius 4 Broadcast and Serious Magic's DV Rack HD. The former is a complete NLE system, but the latter is a much better tool for on-scene recording and monitoring.

Oh, you certainly can, you just need appropriate software. EDIUS and Avid support streaming, and the almost-ready-to-be-released Serious Magic DVC Rack (or HD Rack I think they're calling it now) is the ultimate streaming/capture application. Premiere Pro doesn't support streaming capture of DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO-HD unless you have the Matrox Axio board set.

No, not necessary.
