F3: "Hulkanizing" with 3ality Body Armor...

Not going to sell my F3 in near future :) 1080p is still amazing, especially out of F3 and that's really enough for most projects..

Bit the bullet, went and picked one up today. It's amazing. Especially with the discount I can't believe the price for the kit.

Can I ask what the kit cost you please?

Basically 70% off their regular kit price of $2500. It really makes the F3 feel like the camera it was meant to be.

My only concern is losing the headphones socket on the side. Is there anyway you could drill a hole through the Body Armor to get access to it? You won't always have an external recorder attached to the F3, so it doesn't leave you any other way to monitor the sound. Best, Sparky

Sparky:

Once you remove the top handle from camera you loose all "junk" as well as headphones jack and wiring. No worries! You can hook up your headphones to RCA L+R jacks on the side of F3 (bellow xlrs). Just a simple eBay 3.5/RCA adapter and you're rocking... Yes, you loose headset volume control, but so far (after several "noisy" shoots) I did not have issue monitoring sound as it is...

Don't let this minuscule thing stop you in adapting your camera the way it should have been at the first place...

What can you do to maintain the focus assist feature (button on the righthand side of the camera) with the body armour?

Go in to menu and assign one of the buttons on the smart side to do that function... The same for clip review feature.

Hello all! Does the F3 Armor Kit 2 come with the Side Plate already- I don't think you need it but thought I'd check. Thanks!

Has anyone weighed their camera prior to & then after the hulkanizing process? Interested to know the the net difference when loosing the Sony OEM stuff & the Berkey Plate and then adding the body armour & handle.

Or at the very least can someone weigh the body armour parts?

I did not weigh the camera before and after BUT it is noticeable when handling. The package is heavier!

If you have a berkey top plate I bet that offsets a lot of it.

The thing is, if something is more compact but the same weight, it's perceived as heavier.

I'll see if I can get the weight for the kit from 3ality unless someone comes forward in the mean time.

Andrew, I wouldn't worry too much about the weight but just go out and buy one whilst they still have stock and the price is so amazing - I just did!

Hi Tata
Thanks for starting this whole thread - I made my order yesterday. Just a quickie, did you ever use the F3's top mic much before your purchased the body armor - I use it quite a bit when shooting scenics shots etc - but I can't see it in any of your new rig shots. Is it possible to mount that mic neatly on the armor? How are others doing this? Thanks, Sparky

You welcome, Sparky.
About the camera mic: yes, I use it all the time. I just don't keep it on camera when packed because of the bulk. I have two points for mounting. One is on the top plate. I use Edelkone's "hot shoe" L mount. Other mount is on the front top 15mm short rails that carry my evf holder (see images of my camera). It is another "hot shoe"/15mm eBay adapter on one of the rails. My microphone is attached to Rode "rubber mount" and it can be mounted in any of two hot shoes on the camera. Usually I mount it on one, and on another I mount wireless receiver...
Please see my Reply #21 in this post. You will see in the pix how everything looks.
i hope this helps.

I just joined the hulk club as well.

The audio output out of the RCA jacks is just as loud as the headphone jack with the volume all the way up. I've never used the audio monitor at anything less than full volume, so it doesn't seem like it's going to be a problem.
