HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Whenever I hit export to tape I get a ton of stutter in the video quality and I get all this dropping of the sound and I can't export my edited stuff (Premier 1.5) to tape. PLEASE HELP!

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Tell me what your output settings are? I normally don't use the export to tape feature. I just play it right off the timeline and never had any problems. Check your settings agian.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

So you play it off the time line and just hit the record yourself on the camera? I didn't know you can do this. I've always done a "digital cut" (record to tape) function for Avid Express DV.

If anyone has pointers please show me too because I'm having the same problem (and yes I know I shouldn't be using my dvx as a deck anyways :'()

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

I plug my camera in, and then I hit "export to tape" and it plays the sucker, but I get the above mentioned problems: choppy sound, laggy video etc. and it sounds like my internal hard drives really worked up. I'm running this on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop like 2.8 ghz 512 ram *shrug* it should be enough to export a 5 minute movie right? The settings are just to play the audio through my camera and the video on the monitor and on the camera. I'm stumped.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

The big problem now, even if I reimport the thing as an avi is that the audio breaks up every like 5 seconds, and since this is a music video it's like *wtf*

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

revesta- are you getting this problem only when you export to tape? How does it playback on the timeline. If it plays back smoothly then I assume it could be your export settings. Did you shoot this 24p /f6? Is this the first time this is doing this to you? Let me know.

I don't use avid so I don't know how avid playback works? I'm only a Premiere dude.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Yeah, I shot at 24p and I use Premier so I used the standard NTSC 4:3 to import and edit. It plays well on my timeline, sometimes I get a tiny bit of lag from time to time, but nothing to speak about really--in terms of export settings I dunno what you mean, gimmie a tab to check and I can screenshot it (the only one I know is the DV Playback settings which aren't really that dynamic).

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

I agree with Bluespider...I have always just played straight from the timeline and hit record on the deck. A lot less hassle. Try it. I've done it with a number of NLE systems.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

One thing you might want to make sure is that your avi files are not on the same drive as your system files. Is it? I don't know if you already done this but its good to have a dedicated drive for your movie files only. Try just playing off the timeline and hit record on the deck.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

well the simple things to try...

1. make sure you have some space free on all your drives.
2. IF you have more than one PHYSICAL drive make sure your project files are on the second drive (if you have ONE drive but have it formatted as two drive - c: d: etc that is not the same as two physical drives and moving files around won't help much)
3. defragment your drives. to do this choose the drive and then right click and pick properties and then tools - defragment - this will make your files occupy contiguous blocks instead of being all scattered.

try those things and tell us what happened, did it help?

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

I have had this problem in the past. Most of the time laptop hard drives are 5400. I had to dump all the project files to an external hard disk. Since it is short you be able to play it frm the time line like they said. mike

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

i was able to play 2hrs with prob through my timeline. yeah those wedding videos...

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Okay, this is my setup.

4.something gigs free on my internal C: drive
130 gigs free on the new laCie 150gig drive.

I've got ONLY DV stuff on the laCie drive and I've tried every method of exportation known to man. Hit record on cam and play from timeline, hit export to tape, import the full AVI and export/record etc. etc., still to no avail. Somebody come kick my computer's butt.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

hmmm, is your new lacie drive firewire or USB?

What service pack are you running? SP1 or SP2? SP2 has been know to have problems with Premiere Pro. Don't ask me why because I'm running SP1.

Is this the first time this has happened?

If your lacie drive is USB and your computer only supports USB 1.5 or something you will have lag times and audio dropouts.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Naw, it's Firewire and I think I had a problem upgrading to SP2 so I think I'm SP1.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

revsta, just wondering on your progress? did you get it to work or found what the problem is? I tried as much as I can to help out. Let me know.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Bluespider, so far I've been at home and have not had any time to test. I am going to try to export my latest movie to tape in a few minutes, after clearing up a free 5gig hole in my main hard drive, I hope that will help. I'll get back to you.

P.S. This laptop has no DVD recorder so I can't export straight to DVD either. What I really need is an editing machine but I have no dinero >:(

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

Hey Revsta...are you running your hardrives in DMA mode? if not this can cause choppy video sometimes. DMA (direct memory access) can be turned on in device manager-IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers/primary and secondary IDE channels/advanced settings. Hope this helps.

I've also had problems with too much stuff loading at startup and running antivirus software.

Re: HUGE PROBLEM exporting to tape! PLEASE HELP!!

I haven't had any luck with it at all...and I dunno how to do this DMA thing, I dunno. Any help would be great, I wanna play this on TV.
