HPX500 and SmallHD

I have not enough time to write more but as I mentioned filming outside in sunny days without hood is difficult. With one is also not so easy because you see your face on the screen!
I said "I power monitor from Anton Bauer battery"... I did but it does not work... I bought small DC stabilizer 12V to have exactly 12V to power monitor but after some seconds DP1 switched off and stabilizer was very hot... I think it needs a radiator and some other things. I made only experiments - now I am working to make it good. I have worked for TV last few days but without DP1 because of this problem. Two next days I have free so I will try to write more...

Almost click the "Buy" button on the DP1 but...decided to go with the Ikan V5600 due to it's smaller size. The one thing I found out from experience is that the manufacturer's claims rarely stands up when the equipment is out in the real world...so, just gonna have some faith and will let you guys know how it performed after one month of shoot in Thailand. Will see how it performed under rough conditions of every kind.

I hope you will be happy with V5600. Today I worked with my DP1 and I am very glad I have ordered it. I still do not have power battery option (It was mistake I did not buy smallHD battery...) and I worked with 230V cable behind me... But now I know I have sharp picture! Very glad of it!

Yesterday and today I continued work with HPX500 and DP1. Friend of mine prepared for me power suply for the monitor consisted of 7Aha 12V battery pack (heavy...) and one piece electronic 12V stabilizer with a radiator (piece of metal) and it did work very good outside. As I wrote above using HD on camera monitor is perfect to make precision focus. No problem. I used 20 cm "metal extender" instead really noga arm monitor holder and I have to buy good arm as soon as possible. VF with mic were detatched - sound made by sound engeneer. It is possible to work in direct sun! I thought it will be a big problem to do it but it did not. Sunhood is very good. I worked handheld so I put my head to sunhood as close as I could. All stuff together is not so heavy as I could imagine. Now my VF is off and I do not want to see it anymore! Only thing is I should put somewhere the mic on a camera and make not heavy power supply.

So, how is the DP1 after working with it for a while?

I am considering the DP1 as one of my Carrion's need service (good luck getting that!). The one guy I did find to work on it estimated $700-$800 plus shipping.

Let us know how it will work. I am working all the time with DP1 as I wrote and it's OK. Till now I do not buy any arm so the only problem is - I do not have it. My "metal extender" works good but it is not perfect DP1 attachment. I made power supply from AB battery through 12DC stabilizer plus metal radiator. Well done but it could be easier to have wired direct 12V connection from a camera to the DP1 but it is problem to buy it. Another thing: color and brightness calibration is not so easy. I did it but I am not happy of it. Brightness should be in perfect position because there is no zebra pattern on the output component signal. Now I often have to check zebra pattern on LCD of HPX500. So I need make perfect calibration with proffesional charts. But the one thing is the best: focusing with DP1 is very easy...

East Film,
If you set your Output Character switch to on, that will route the zebra pattern to the external monitor.

forgive me question if its been answered somewhere else but, is there a connection for the DP1 that can just hookup to the power tap on the AB plate of the HPX500 ??

It seems like that would be super easy to just run a small wire from power tap to DP1 monitor

is this possible? or does this simple cable not exist?

It does not work. DC of AB battery is to high and not the same (~11-15,3V). DP1 needs 12V. I made exactly this connection but between the power tap on the AB plate of the HPX500 and DP1's input jack I put 12V DC stabilizer with radiator (it was written before). Now it works.

I just got the SmallHD for my Canon 5D and it absolutely kicks butt!
I had a Marshall before with my HVX200, and I hated to sell it earlier this year, but
so far, I am astounded by the clarity of the SmallHD. They are great, great guys to
work with, as well.

Seamus,

I have had a Marshall for some time now and have always hated it. When compared to my Panasonic 17" the quality is VERY poor. How does the DP1 compare to the Marshall?
