HPX300 with FBC Update.

Are there any owner of HPX300. I would be very keen to see the footage shooting Strobe lights from still flashes etc from events/red carpets/wedddds etc shot on HPX300 with FBC (Flash band Compensation) update.

Its been long i havent seen any footage from this....

I am working on a project where I also shot some behind-the-scenes coverage. I have the 9.30(?) firmware and have FBC assigned to a user button. That being said, when I hit the user button it displays "FBC off" so I would think FBC is always "on" unless I turn it off. It never says "FBC on." Anyway, here is a short clip from the shoot:

I did a lot of political campaign with my 2 301's, hundreds of flashes around and no problem of rolling shutter.

Nope. I was only sure when it was "off" when I hit the user button. Just power cycled the camera and hoped it was on. Didn't really have time to mess with it before the shoot. At least they weren't firing the strobes when I was shooting my part of the production. Banding is ok for the behind the scenes stuff - makes it more "Arty." It's a feature I'm not even going to bill them for!

Just found the problem after updating to 9.33 and reading up on FBC. I was in 720/30PN mode rather than 720/60P. Now the user button turns FBC off/on. I needed the extra space on the cards so I was using 720/30PN and FBC doesn't work in that mode.

The documentation (firmware 9.30) indicates: The FBC function is available in the 1080/60i, 720/60P (VFR OFF) and 480/60i modes when the shutter OFF. You do have to assign FBC to a user button and turn it ON.

9.33 should be the same.

Reading this thread I just discovered there was a new firmware. What is new compared to the firmware update 9.30 ?
Also strange that you do't receive an email about this update although the vam is registrated !!!!

edit : found the update. Is only interested when you use dc input and batteries at the same time. Hoped for some more like reduction of RS artifacts but in vain :-(

Yes you are right - but please remember: in this demonstration you see every frame 4 times (25% playback speed). In real time playback the flash and the resulting streak are not that strong.

Ok. Seem fine. Why is it that all demo videos i hav seen on FBC update are only with still objects , nill have any moving subject ... i guess the FBC ON with moving subject gives a jittery motion.

I really don't see the flash banding as an issue and have come to care about it less and less. I'm seeing it much more often as both professional and consumer cameras (phone cams, etc.) continue to go with CMOS sensors. Indeed, I've seen tons of televised footage of many red carpet and other press-heavy events with flash banding present. I know we're all perfectionists, but I really see flash banding becoming the "new normal" (love it or hate it) within the next few years.

i seriously wanna see a footage of say red carpets or some such launches shot on HPX300 with FBC ON & with some moving visual elements. COX panny supposidly claims to have fixed FBandin where as their videos are only of still motionless items with flashes moving aorund it. i wanna see some movements of human etc.

I shot a high end fashion show yesterday and had no problem with flashes or strobes. Set to 720/60P no shutter. I set USER 1 button for FCB ON but I believe it's always on if you're in 720/60. Before the show started I had some still photographers flash as a test. It doesn't look exactly like a non-CMOS flash situation but at least there's no objectionable horizontal band. So clients won't notice or care.

The real problem is this camera is not sensitive in low light and I will no longer do live events indoors with my LED Litepanels on camera light. I will have to go back to my Anton Bauer Ultra Liight.

FCB works sometimes...

FCB works sometimes...

I take it back...I am now Logging & Transferring and came across one bad one, but the person was aiming directly into my lens. Here are 2 frames WITH FCB ON. The frames are adjacent, the lower band is first, perhaps from a red eye feature? Ugh!!!
