HPX250: HPX250 - Audio issue when using external shotgun mic.

It is very likely the audio overloading before the level control. Switching the iniput to "Line' should fix the problem in loud situations.
 
Okay, so we talked to the folks at Sennheiser and they basically said that yes indeed that the ME66 is a hot mic. They do have a modification that they are willing to do that will knock it back a bit. That said we asked them to send one that had been modified and one that hadn't. We set the front input at -40dB (this is the only one that can be set for -40 BTW) and tested both out. We could not duplicate the problem as discussed here, with or without the mod. Once we switched to -50, it was fairly easy to duplicate the situation as described here.

So gentleman would you please go back to your cameras and retest them. Be sure you are in -40db(menu item) and you are not running the input volume too hot, preferably with no bars going red but at the threshold bar before the first red bar for the loudest sound.

It is funny about the ME66. I seem to recall issues with how hot this mic was about 9-10 years ago using a PD-150. A number of folks used a pad to dampen it a bit. Good mic though.

Thank you for your post and apologies for the late reply.

The issue I am experiencing with the camera is not just linked to the me66. I have replicated it with multiple mics and with the internal setting at -40. Yes using a pad might work but I'm still baffled at how canons xf305 does not do this with any of the mics mentioned. It just seems that either the circuitry is the 250 is not great or the quality of components is poor. Right now this has gone on far too long for me, ruining audio on 2 jobs and all I now want is a refund for the camera.

I would have the camera checked out a service center. I'm using a Beyerdynamic MC 736 on my HPX250 with excellent results. I've used it in extremely loud environments and normal and never experienced anything close to what you are describing.
