HPX170 serial number fix

I am getting ready to purchase the HPX170, and need to know at what serial number is the focus issue fixed?

Are there any other issues that I need to be aware of?

For US models, HPX170's that start with a J should incorporate the new lens parts. The first
batch of 170's started with an I.

My 170 is back at Panasonic so it can be looked at by engineers because I believe it to be noisier than an HVX200A. There are a couple of other forum members who had 200A's who think their 170's are noisier as well.

What serial number does your start with?

Another guy posted that he had one with J8 as the starting serial number, and it had the lens wobble, so maybe it needs to be J9 or higher serial #

What is the problem?? And how does it effect UK PAL HPX170's??

No need to worry. This is a very old thread (from 2008) that was accidentally revived. When the US cameras very first came out, there was a 'wobble' issue which was quickly resolved and the cameras that where manufactured after that had no problems. The early cameras with that issue were repaired under warranty.

Although I don't know if this was a problem anywhere outside the US, the only concern now is if you were buying a used camera that is over a year old and the first owner never got the warranty fix (in which case -- it's still under warranty!).
