16mm film to DV transfer (TELECINE).. Advice?

Planning to transfer some footage I shot in 16mm celluloid to dv using my dvx100b. Has anyone done this before? Can they recommend any settings? 24p? or 24pa? 24p timeline, or standard ntsc 29.97 timeline? Shutter speed?

Any suggestions that will improve the transfer quality would be great.

The film will be project (from a 16mm projector) on a foam board and just taped with my camera.

Thanks!

Depending on how much film you have, you could probably get a real telecine transfer done for under $100. Why DIY when the pros are pretty cheap?

a $100 is assuming you have like 200ft of film or something....but the results between a good rank telecine with a good colorist and filmng the projection will be night and day. I would shoot the projection at 24p or 30p I dont know how much diffrence you will see betweent he two and then deffinetly take advantage of the adjustable shutter speed and remove as much of the flciker as you can. and then just use a 29.97 timeline...if telecine film they always use the 3:2 pull down to 29.97 that is what the pulldown was invented for.

Thank you for the help.. I want to do the DIY method because I've already professionaly TC other projects, and it's great, but Id like to just get this one on DV for now.. Maybe in the future get the real telecine when I have a ton of other footage to go with it. Besides, the film is what is required to be shown (not DV).

Thanks for your help!

Shoot 24PA and remove the 2:3:3:2 pulldown in post. You won't have to deal with interlacing in the timeline this way, you'll get the exact frames you shot with film.
