hpx170 - footage to pc

Hello everyone. I'm a day old on this website and thank the lord almighty (lol) that I've found it.

Just got me a hpx170, and without disrespecting anyone with such a stupid question but, I'm having trouble getting footage from the camera - or p2 card - to my PC. I know, I should own a mac.

So when I plug in the USB cable and all that, it says USB device for a few seconds, then says USB device disconnect... the same happens when i plug a firewire cable in.. 1394 disconnect..

Anyone?

Much appreciated

Also, if by chance your 'PC' happens to be a laptop, you can insert the P2 card into a PCMCIA slot and copy the files directly to your hard drive.

I've been doing this and it is MUCH faster and easier than the tape transfer I had grown accustomed to in the past. Welcome to the wonderful world of tapeless workflow!

Yeah, the PCMCIA slot is awesome! I use a mac and an XP laptop and so far I'm digging the laptop method more.

sounds like u need the drivers, get the drivers installed and let us know what happens.

after installing the p2 drivers, i plugged the 170 into the computer with both usb and firewire cables... i even changed the setting on the camera to usb device and 1394 device according to which cable was plugged in... after a few flashes of 1394 device.. it stops at 1394 device disconnect... same with the usb...

thanks

Try turning the camera off and then connect to PC, once connected to PC turn the camera on.

The very same thing is happening here. I'm wondernig if I should uninstall everything I had for the HVX200 and start clean.

so i'm not crazy! i knew it. i've reinstalled the drivers, unplugged, replugged, plugged into the camera first then pc, plugged into pc then camera.. im losing my mind - lol

I have the same issue with my camera. I've installed all the drivers, and it's just not mounting on my computer most of the time. Once in awhile it does mount as a drive, but then Final Cut won't recognize the files. Tried calling panasonic. They don't seem to know much about their own camera because it's so new. Frustrating.
