HPX170 and Uncompressed HD via HD-SDI.

hey there HPX170ers,

has any here done (or read about) anyone shooting with an HPX170 and recording uncompressed HD via the HD-SDI output to a Blackmagic or similar device?

thanks,

rk.

There was a comparison done a while back between shooting DVCProHD on an HVX and a ProRes via SDI. I'll see if I can find it somewhere.

I'm looking forward to this as well. I am considering a HPX170 but am wondering if I should invest in a Firestoretype device or a SDI-ProRes type device.

Hey Hey,
Okay, there was one post I vaguely recall that measured the gains of encoding to ProRes 422 but, alas, I cannot seem to find it.

However, I found a few posts that, assuming you can contact the original post-ers, you can probably get some comparisons. If I was in the US right now I'd run over to a studio run by a friend and do some tests with the ioHD and the HDX900 and HPX170. Wish I could have been of more help.

Given that the 170 utilizes a spatial-offset CCD block, what value is SDI out in improving the image?

and this may be dumb question, but what is the difference between HD-SDI and SDI? the output on the 170 is labelled as SDI, where as the XL-H1 (and 2/3" beasts) has HD-SDI.

Same thing.

SDI was originally a standard-def protocol, and HD was added later. The HPX170 supports both. In fact the HPX's implementation is more well-rounded than the original XLH1's, since the XLH1 didn't embed audio or timecode in the data stream.
