HPX170 and audio channel + newbie

I have a couple DVX100 and use Adobe Premiere CS4. I have been interested in maybe getting into HD and decided to try out the workflow of the 170 and Premiere before jumping into HD. I went to the local video store and recorded some footage at 1080p and 720p onto the P2 card and then loaded the data into a laptop. I then imported the data into CS4 but I noticed that the audio is embedded directly in the video track. There was not separate audio track. Not sure if this is a function of the PROHD format or if there was a setting on the camera that was not set correctly. I really would need to have the audio track separate from the video track to be able to edit the audio track separately. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way things work.
Thanks for any input.

There was not separate audio track. Not sure if this is a function of the PROHD format or if there was a setting on the camera that was not set correctly.

that must have something to do with your premiere settings. as the camera always records 4 distinct audio channels.
and not sure if this matters to you but the 170 shoots DVCPROHD. "PROHD" was jvc's flavor of HDV from about 5 years ago...

Yeah that's more a Premiere question than an HPX170 question. Audio should come in as four discrete mono channels if you have your import settings correct. And not sure what you mean by audio being embedded directly in the video track. That's not really possible- audio and video are always separated. It's more a question of how you are displaying them in your editor. So a bit more time with the Premiere manual will help you along...
