HPX170 - A Second Look

For those who need a lighting course soon, I suggest "DV Enlightenment" DVD from DVcreators.net, very good and useful. It's quite basical, but if you have to add more light, you need a large crew and a lots of money! Hope it helps!:Drogar-Dum(DBG):

OK I'll top that: able to confirm yet that the lens and CCD are aligned properly?:evil:

Duncan, for whom that is now the single most important factor in selecting a new camera.

I'm with Jason, any news on PAL/NTSC?

I'm getting a stomic ulcer from worrying about this, I desperatly do not want to move to a different brand of camera.

In the US it wil come with a 16GB P2 card and Barry's new HVX-HPX book.

Best,

Jan

Woooooooooooooooot!!!
Seriously? Right off the bat?

I guess the "promotion" will then be when they offer it with a 32GB instead of the 16GB

Oh, and for the PAL/NTSC guys, consider that card one more nail in the coffin.

Yes right off the bat, there were a lot of heated battles on this one, and the battle looks much different as you look around the world. As an example if it were in the box going into parts of Europe it would make the camera cost even more due to the duties and fees. But here in the US we don't have those issues, we primarily have a Gray Market issue. So this card in the box has several purposes. The first is customer oriented and it allows the customer to be able to do something, the minute he opens the box and pulls out the camera. The second is that it helps the potential customer to determine whether a deal is legit. Keep in mind that if a vendor is looking to sell the camera on his web page for a price under $5195, it probably is not legit and it won't be a US camera.

This is more important when there is an addition 4 year warranty once you register the camera, all total meaning that there is a 5 year warranty on this product and that warranty is in the country of origin.

So with the card in the box and Barry's book in there, I think it will be pretty easy to figure out what is the real deal.

So the promotion is a really cool little camera!

All the best,

Jan

Does this confirm the price @ $5195,- for the HPX 170 as expected ?

The list price of the AG-HPX170 is $5695. The minimum advertised price is $5195. I think initially you will find the vendors to be selling higher than the MAP due to the supply and demand, 5 months to a year from now, different story.

Best,

Jan

Great news! I always thought the HPX-170 should cost the same or less than the HVX-200a, and now it does. $5195 at B&H.

I'm just asking, not starting an argument, but why should we stop worrying about it Joe?

thanks,
Derrick

I wasnt trying to put you down, sorry if it came off like that.

All im saying is wait for the camera to actually come out before you go purchase anything else. The Switchability issue is more than meets the eye. I cant say anymore..

edit: and damnit, i wish other countries outside the US would do the free card thing.

Oh wait, the cat IS out of the bag.

Hello Dxmetal,

The 170 needs to be upgraded to PAL and can only be done after it has been registered for the 5-year warranty. This means that only US customers with US addresses can get their cameras upgraded to NTSC/PAL.

Best regards,

Andrew Hoffman
