HPX170 + 60d combo

Hey guys, i produce episodic content and sell them to channels around the globe; my clients have included both discovery and nat geo's HD channels. I've used the hpx500/170 for video and a d2x for stills.. Now because of the type of shoot, (more run and gun), i've opted to stay with the 170 beause of its portability, and got a 60D to be the A cam and for when I need stylistic shots..

Im new to HDSLRs for videography, but I dont see what everyone has been complaining about? The 60D is a breeze to use, and is a joy to handle for video! With a monopod (not even required), it is stunning for run and gunning filming. With the articulating LCD, and crop zoom for focusing, mic input, etc. all that, it is such a joy to use for videography. And ofcourse, paired with the right lens, it puts out quite the image..

Infact, i did a side by side comparison of the 170 and the 60d, (170 was on low noise preset) and even then, it was no comparison. The 60d footage blew the 170's quality away in sharpness, grain, color, everything.. I thought the DVCPROHD with its more relaxed codec and 4:2:2 sampling would be a bit superior upon raw ingest and for color tweaking.. But the 60d's footage was superior!

Am I stating the obvious? Or ....? I can pretty much comfortably shoot the entire series with a team of 60d's!! Any thoughts /feedback appreciated

yeh you kinda are stating the obvious :) around these parts...but not to worry, you are new to it. Welcome to the dsrl world. Dont let the nay sayers desuade you. these cameras can do wonderful things in the right hands and with proper care given to the footage. And yes there codec is weaker and there are other issues...but those complaints are for whiney b**ches in my opinion, that can't shoot properly. No camera is perfect. So my advice is to hone your skills and any camera will give you decent results.

thanks! Whats the general consensus, exposure compensation and that one other setting to on or off? I shoot everything in the standard profile, figure, its better to shoot in a neutral setting and tweak in post.. BTW, the codec holds up great in post as well! I know its not going to do great with stroby lights, and fast pans/motions, but i really can't believe how good the image is, almost a too good to be true scenario!
