enjoy the noise on this 2 minute 40 second footage we shot using:
HPX170
Letus Extreme
C/Y Zeiss

Regular Cine-D settings w/ "-8 Master Ped".

i got confused looking @ this footage on Final Cut,
seriously... my hvx200 didn't even produce this much noise.

we used 2k tungsten + 4ft4bank KinoFlo
&
no gain
 
try boosting the gain up to 9db next time and see what happens.

this actually reduces noise for me in low light situations believe it or not.
 
I actually tried +12db filming a wedding recently and the noise is there but ... not as bad as it should be. But know if I should stay on Cine V or it's ok to stay on Cine D?
 
Tose lenses are sharp. did see the noise but your art direction made is less of a distraction.
 
You guys are beginning to freak me out, I have had my 170 for three weeks and haven't had any time to shoot anything except some tests for my article. I did not see excessive noise and shooting against the HVX200, I saw much greater picture detail.

My 170 generates much less noise than my HVX ever did. Why are you getting such a different result?

Jan made it seem like a camera to camera issue. They just need to put the two side-by-side... they being those who've noticed this issue... and do a comparison shoot. Oh wait they are doing that!
 
just got my camera back from panasonic today... had to go pick it up from UPS center @ 9:45pm because they typed in my address wrong, had me waiting the whole day for it, and finally i tracked it and it shows address not available.

i don't want to say "wth is panasonic doing" because they corrected the issue of the lens wobble, but we discovered the noise issue and they are not recognizing it, & now shipping my camera to wrong address. wth is panasonic doing?
 
geeze, I don't mind a bit of noise, actually a prefer a little bit, BUT

that is really excessive and distracting.

I'm not understanding that the noise levels differ from camera to camera???

The noise doesn't look objectionable to me guys. Think, the HVX would take a crap on this scene. You'd see blotches and noise in all the blacks. The 170 is a major improvement. Now, against, the 200a, that's another story, but you do get HD-SDI recording...
 
i guess my point is that panasonic keeps claiming the 170 image is identical to the 200a, evidently, the 170 is much noisier than the 200a, it can be compared to the regular 200, but yeah... no idea wth happened this time around...
 
Barry and Kholi each have their hands on 200As and they are going to shoot some side by side motion tests and post the results. Stay tuned!

test & post please, thanks. i had a couple files of barry green's scene files, all so extremely noisy. perhaps only the "low-noise" was not noisy, but the image did not look good.

i do not recall the hvx200a being that noisy ever in 0db
