HPX Filter Test

You really need some behind the scenes footage so we can see how you were holding all 3 filters at the same time.

I just set them on on top of another and held on. Probably not good for the filters but didn't seem to hurt them for a one time trial. They were all spotless when I started, too.

Also, I din't have the internal ND engaged either. Could have knocked it down a few more f stops with that.

Thanks for the kind words Matt. Don't know you if you another post I made, but I like the new logo you're using. We'll have to get together some time when I'm in DC.

Comparing the HVX and HPX, the HPX just blows it away in overall control. With that, I still like the Letus/HVX combo. I like being able to use the full cine set-up of rails, FF, Letus, carrion monitor, and soon, my Red Rock Matte Box. The HPX loaed up becomes a very heavy animal (not to mention the nearly 6lb AB battery!). I was shooting last night for several hours, carting the HPX and a Miller CF tripod around. It wasn't horrible because I could use the excellent shoulder strap that comes with the HPX. But it still weighs a ton. I did a similar shoot last year with the HVX by itself and worked almost all day with it and never got tired. I found that by using the zoom on the HVX I could get satisfactory DOF even without the Letus.

With the Letus however, you get a "look" that even the HPX doesn't quite have. As soon as the MB comes in, I'm going to spend time making a full comparison between shooting the two cameras. I'm working a live event on the 15th in Richmond where I'll have three cameras going; my Sony A1u, HPX, and HVX. It will give me a chance to really see how footage compares (it's and indoor fashion show so no Letus depending on available light). If anyone wants to come and help, feel free to PM me. It's pro bono for a good cause.

So which do I prefer? I think it boils down to what Barry G always says, different cameras for different jobs. I do know when you show up with the HPX, people look at you like you just drove up in an Abrams M1 tank.

Otherwise, I completely agree with the review in the blog about the filters. For the money, I don't think they can be beat. But I do wish they had a soft wrap cover incuded with each one. The paper is worthless. I would have gladly paid another $50 bucks for covers (not just the soft bags they come with).
