Shooting a short tomorrow with the HPX-500. wanted to test it out with the M2...

So I did some side by side shooting of my 200 and the 500...

My AC Lee at first thought it could't be done...but with help from my gaffer friend Jarred they where able to rig my crazy Idea to life...

yes thats Zip ties ...

Because we flipped the M2 and we should have had a bigger tripod then the Cartoni Focus...on longer lenses My AC had to be really care full not to bump the Camera...

this is pretty much how all my AC's feel...

The footage reminded me of some of my first red rock footage with vignetting and not as much edge to edge sharpness...but like the first time I acpect to continualy get better results as I tweek with the system...

we where shooting 720PN with +6 Gain...as a test to see it compared to the HVX with the same gain...

some people may think Im crazy to put a DOF adapter on a 2/3 inch camera....But it did give me acsses to all of my Nikon Lenes...

and still much shallower Depth of feild then 2/3 inch or 16mm...

and there must be a reason why someone made a 2/3 inch adapter...

I'll post stuff from the short when I can my next day off is in 9 days...
I plan on doing a little podcast of my review of the camera and post a comparisiobn video of the HVX with M2 compared to the HPX with "stock" fuji lens...d

Thanks to AVR

Ok - so i got inspired by this to get mine working - and I did it - I think you can go much simpler Vincent - you need to use the macro mode on the lens (if you arent )

smelni, can you show us some shallow DOF with the stock 2/3" lens and with the Redrock m2 PLEASE. It doesn't have to be video, just some frame grab would be great ! Nobody has the demo HPX 500 near where i live :(

thanks

I had a +1 and a +2 diopter... and was in macro on the Fujion lens ...with the HD Acromat

When I used the M2 on a Super 16mm Aton XTR with a Zeies macro 10-100mm I had a +3 and a +1 Diopter...It seemed better...

yesterday we improved the system..and got rid of almost all the vignetting, we had to zoom way past it. like over 60mm on the lens...

The problem we had with this set up is that on longer lenses it worked great. but anything 50mm or wider the lack of edge to edge sharpness was unexceptable...

which brings me to a question...has anyone had luck with 35mm primes on a Nikon mount and 50mm on pl mount? I seem to get more vignetting and focus issues with these focal length...

Smelni what are u using between your camera and the M2?

VP

I am using just the HD acromat that red rock has. Then I set the camera in macro and there was a combo of zoom and focus that seemed to work - i have to do much more testing and I will shoot a chart soon

it looks like you have a lot more space between the Fuji and red rock...perhaps thats how you got it to work with just the Macro...How zoomed in where you on the Fuji and just to make sure you are using the "stockish" cheap (6k} Fuji lens?

I believe we where zoomed a little past 60mm much more and there was no way to focus on GG..
VP

that will defeat the purpose - without a screen for projection in between the lens and the camera you wont get the DOF that the lens would give you on a larger chip
