HPX-300-sports

We're considering the purchase of an HPX-300 and I watched with interest the news yesterday about the upgrade to the camera dealing with the flash banding and skew. Wondering how the camera performs when shooting sports- particularly hand-held? we would be using this to shoot a fair bit of football, basketball and hockey which is very quick and requires a lot of fairly severe camera movements. Can anyone share experiences they've had with the camera shooting sports or other fast moving scenes?

Thanks,

24p, or 60p/60i? The skew is dramatically reduced in 60p/60i mode, which I would expect you'd be shooting sports in.

The only real answer is for you to try it yourself, but it's of much less concern when you're in 60p or 60i.

I shot about an hour of HoopFest, a three on three street basketball tournament with 26000 participants where I live two weeks ago.

Shot 1080/30p and 24p AVCIntra locked down and handheld.

Didn't shoot full zoom -- mostly court side and over head, and we were pleasantly surprised with the results of the footage.

There was occasional skew in both frame rates, but only if you look for it.

Football would be far less fast moving than basketball.

Focus is always an issue, and the cam is 13lbs with battery, so it does require some additional effort over handheld cams like the 170.

We also have footage of a eight person basketball unicycle entertainment troupe in the Nike Center Court surrounded by a crowd that is pretty fast moving and I shot that handheld.

Nice footage.
