HPX250: HPX-250 footage vs AC-160

Is it me, or does the footage(online) of the AC-160 look sharper and more colorful than the boring/dull looking hpx-250? I'm trying to find good footage of the 250, but haven't found any. Has anybody experienced anything different?

I shoot all my 250 footage flat, AVCINTRA 100.

It grades so well. My understanding is that 130/160 shoot 4:2:0 and 250 is 4:2:2 with a more robust codec.

250 footage is a jaw dropping to us.

I think I remember a while back Barry Green saying that the default colors of the 250 and 160 are different. That the 130/160 are modeled after a more saturated look similar to the 150/170, and the 250 has a more subtle color look like the 370. My guess is that the 250 is flatter because there's so much more latitude to grade. When I rented the 250 I did some quick skin tone tests comparing it to my 150. The 150 was more saturated, but the 250 had more realistic and subtler skin tones.

Oh, I see. I'm guessing you can paint the 250 to mimic the saturated look of the 160? It would be nicety see 250 footage with that 160 sharpness and colors. I'm looking to purchase the 160/250 or even the canon 300, but really like the codec of the 250(more flexible)

Thanks David. I definitely will. I spent a few hours at B&H playing with the 250's settings. Do you know if Barry has a book included with the Cam?

Since you ordered from an authorized dealer, yes you'll find the book in the box as a free gift from Panasonic USA.

Congrats on your new cam!

Oh nice! Thanks for the response Barry. I'm looking forward to reading the book and making some nice images.
