HPX 170 capture from FCP

I'm trying to capture footage straight to my system (G5 dual 2.5, FCP6, DVCPRO HD 720 25p, Fire wire External HD la cie) to do some test and I'm getting a message from FCP "frames where dropped during capture..." and therefore I'm unable to get footage... Any suggestions?
 
Yeah...get another firewire bus. Havng the camera and drive on the same bus (macs only have one bus, even though they have multiple ports) can be a big issue. Get a PCI firewire card. PCI-X or PCIe, depending on what your system takes.
 
go in to the user prefs in FCP and uncheck the box in the General or Capture tabs (I forget which one) labeled abort capture on dropped frames. that woks too make sure to change it back when doing important stuff though or you might end up with missing frames in your captured materiel.
