How's 16X9 working for you?

I'm prepping up to shoot a one song video for a local band. Debating between shooting in HD or 16X9 for an edit in FCP.

If the final output will probably be the internet, what format would you shoot it in? I've been shooting mostly in HD since I picked up the A1, but I'm wondering if it would be easier to edit (ie faster for the computer) if I shot it 16X9. Or would it be better to shoot HD and downconvert? I have a dual 2GHZ G5, which is pretty fast, but still not that robust for HD editing. I'm thinking there will be multiple layers on the timeline as I do the edit.

So I guess I'm asking have any users been shooting in 16X9 with the A1, and have you had favorable experiences?

16x9 SD acts exactly like 24p mode on the DVX and XL2. It even has 2:3:3:2 and 3:2 pulldown choice. Resolution is sharp. What can I say? It's DV so editing is the same.

I only ran into problem once when the tape contains different timecode (some stuff were 60i, some were HDV) and the resulting pulldown was screwed up, leaving interlacing artifacts.

Well heres the thing 16:9 or (1.78:1) is a video terminology for a widescreen aspect ratio, which can be HD or SD. SO what I think you are meaning is should I shoot in HD or SD? If thats the case I would personally shoot all original footage in HD then use Apples prores or AIC to edit. Then output in SD mode via compressor.

Guys, thanks for the quick responses. Much appreciated.
Noel, I did mean SD 16X9. In Signal Setup you're given 3 options (Under "Signal STD"):
HD
SD
SD 16X9

As Noel stated above, Always shoot in HD. You can always compress it down to SD but you can't bring SD to the HD quality.

If you do extensive effects/multilayering than doing this in HDV on a G5 might become a PITA...
On the other hand people say for CC HD actually is better because you get more pixels to play with...
Many great videos have been shot with the XL2 or the DVX so SD16x9 might not be a bad choice after all...
