How'd they do this?

REAL LIFE reboot!!!!! nice!

lol

looks like rotoscoping to me... looks time consuming.

i remember an article on digg about this - they used green boards (although i'm sure there's more to it)

Rotoscoping

not your fault papa, but how and when did this term get flipped? i've always known the term as in relation to animation and then comes the internet and forums - i think it started on theforce.net with those lightsaber tutorials. granted it is partly correct because the lightsaber is an animation and it's being made to look lifelike. oh well...just one of many terms that loses it's original meaning.

forexample the word - awful - it used to mean full of awe :)

I saw an article on this
the camera is actually a motion control camera.
The first pass is live with the skaters on green boards and the motion control rig recording the footage and the camera movement. Then they play back the camera movement back and record without anyone in the scene to key back into where the board is. Then someone rotod the shadow if the board out, but at least had the nice edges from the board green to pull a key to start from.

They were even sneaky and put another skater with a small camcorder so you would automatically think that the spot was shot with the same camera.

you know how made that clip? SPIKE JONZE with a 35mm cam and it was for the YEAH RIGHT skateboard video

Rotoscope = Frame by frame.

Doesn't matter what you are dooing, it just means frame by frame - though normally painting of some sorts.

If you look closely at the rest of that skateboard video, they sneak in some other cool stuff. The used jumps to go over stuff and they removed them in post so you can see a guy jumping over a parking meter, over 2 picknic table ect....
