How wide a lens for Glidecam shooting?

Just wondering if anybody has used a Glidecam, Merlin etc... with a 7D.

What lens gave you the best results?

Just wondering if it's best to be around 20mm or can I get away with 35-50mm?

Thanks

Any lens will work up to about a 135 after that you need to be good, so a 50 isn't a problem.

Pookie talk to me about your experiece using your GC or merlin at 135 with a canon 7d keeping the shots framed nicely and holding focus, which is probably about three inches - maybe post a little link to some of this footage

I too would be intrigued to see this. Bear in mind that 135mm x 1.6 is a pretty narrow field of view! Personally I have 3.9mm on my HMC151 which is roughly 17mm on the 7d.

I was watching the commentary to "The Shining" the other day and i think Garret Brown says the maze scene was shot with a 9.8mm lens. I believe the actors were something like 20-25 feet away to avoid distortion.

In hdv/dv this means you'd probably have to use a lens adapter and buy a Sigma lens seeing as they're pretty much the only company manufacturing super wide still lenses worth looking into imho.

I never shelled out the cash to shoot that wide on steadicam, but I believe the Shining to be crowning achievement in steadicam operation, so writing this I think that might be my next investment.

I used the Glidecam HD-4000 with a Sigma 24-70mm lens with different zoom settings in different shots. I put together a video the other day about steadycams and the T2i, which is like the 7D. I posted the thread here:

Shooting at 24mm is perfectly fine in my opinion. the 24mm becomes 38.4mm, but it works just fine.
