I'm in Canada and its snowing alot..... i went out to do some photography wtih my D200 today and some areas i was knee deep in snow..
soo.. if i wanted to take my DVX100b out for some shooting, will heavy snow damage the camcorder?? i should probably get porta-brace rain cover or something but just wondering if anyone had any experience in this kind of situations

if it's "dry" snow, you shoudl be ok, just be sure to blow/wipe it off BEFORE you go in anywhere warm and it melts.

If it's wet snow, then this is a bad idea without at least light rain protection.

A regular Portabrace "camera skin" should be fine in most winter conditions (plus it can be used to house hot-packs to keep the camera & battery warmer), though a full on rain slicker is generally a good idea in your kit anyway if you shoot outside regularly.

I have been on shoots with guys with there dvxs w/o slickers in rain, and the dvx will be literally dripping, and it still shoots and functions, personally and wet shoot snow or rain I use my petrol slicker just to be safe, so yes they are quite resistant, but not recommended.

I just shot in snow and rain with my DVX. It performed well and still does. But if I had it to do over again I would spend the 90 bucks on a portabrace or petrol cover.

I would strongly suggest if you are shooting in wet weather...never use the flip out LCD screen. I had mine go out twice due to small drops of rain water which, at first, didn't seem to affect anything, then the moisture worked it's way into the screen along the edges and ultimately caused the screen to fail. I had seen the very small drops hit the screen and immediately dried them up...but it still wasn't fast enough to keep from having an expensive repair bill. Twice!

I had a Porta-Brace, fitted for DVX, rain-cover on the camera both times.

Shoot in wet weather but leave that flip out screen closed!

Just because he wants to go out and shoot and it doesn't happen to be for a paid gig doesn't mean he shouldn't. It's practice, it's pleasure, it's art.

I have taken my DVX out in fairly heavy drizzle as well as snow and I have never had a problem. Go for it, just don't drop it!

Why wouldn't you spend 100 bucks to protect your 3 grand investment? Get the tools you need to insure your job to the best of your ability.

It doesn't make a difference if it's for a client or you personally.

hey thanks for the reply guys, I checked out petrol and porta-brace website and saw some rain cover products for dvx100.. also wondering if they have camcorder glove/skin ? to fit dvx100.. seem like good idea to prevent scratches and what not... adding this to my christmas wish list... hope it fits my budget~ ha
have good holidays guys~
