How to tell if it's 24p (over 60) or 24pN

Hey all - First post -

I don't have the option right now of speaking with the DP, so I was hoping to be able to use the P2 viewer to tell if the footage is 24p over 60 or 24pN. Is there a way to tell? In the P2 viewer it says:

Frame rate - 23.98p
VFR ratio - 24/60

But every time I try to bring it into Avis Xpress Pro v5.7 720p 59.94 seq it tells me it's not the right frame rate, but it goes into a 720p 23.98 seq just fine.

This leads me to believe that it is 24pN.

Any insight would be great.

Thanks,
Tom

The VFR 24/60 shows up for overcranked/undercranked clips, which would lead me to believe that it's definitely an indicator that the particular clip was 24pN.

But on a 720/24pN clip at 24fps, the VFR field is empty, so that's not the only way to tell.

The "frame rate" field is what you want to be looking at; if the "frame rate" is 23.98 that should indicate a 24pN file. If it's 59.94 that would indicate an "over 60" file.

All the clips are marked that way in the viewer - Frame rate 23.98, VFR ratio - 24/60. The guys from the shoot keep telling me - "we shot 60fps"

Everyting is moving in vcery slow motion when played back at 24.

I think they did it wrong. Now I'm using Raylight to make 59.94 ref avi's.

Unless there is a better solution?

Tom

The guys at the shoot may have been looking in the Scene File rather than in Recording Setup, which is where you set your timebase. Changing the frame rate in the Scene File is how you do VFR.

You can speed it up to 250% in a 60i or 60p timeline.
