Hi guys, I need help to use my rode ntg2 mic on my canon xa10. It seems it's not recording properly. I plug it to the xlr channel 1, use mic channel, switch on ext mic. What else do I need to do? There's no sound recorded?

Any switch I need turn on or off? Btw I did put a AA batt in the mic. Pls help thxs!

You did install a brand new battery correctly. I don't have the Xa10 but did you switch the cams 48volts on? Turn the cam volume up? Put a formatted card in?

Cheers.

I did switch on the cam 48v there was recording but with alot of humming:( what's the cam 48v for? Xa10 has a 80gb hardisk built in.

The Mic+48v setting lets you use the mic without the battery, so just use the Mic setting if you have a functioning battery in the Rode.

If it's like the XF100...there is a menu setting to have one xlr input recorded on both channels (mono) instead of separate channels (stereo) - if the XA10 has that option is it turned on to only record Channel 2? Did you try Channel 2 at all? Headphone monitoring and/or volume level meters not registering anything? Certain the XLR cable is good?

Thx, I tried 48v wo batt it works except there's a lot of hissing noise how do I minus that? Btw what's microphone attenuator?

It sounds like all the 48V from the camera is being blocked and not getting to the mic. If it's only getting say 30volts the NTG-2 is underpowered and will sound 'hissy' Same result with a low battery.

One possible cause might be an elcheapo mic cable, maybe off ebay. Try another cable or you could take your rig down to a local camera shop, for some help.

A mic attenuator (-10db) drops the audio level of the mics output so it doesn't overload the camera input. Typically it's used when you're recording very LOUD music.

btw if you use the cams 48V supply all the time, don't leave the battery installed and forget it. Some batteries will leak when they get flat, and that's not covered by Rodes 10yr free warranty. Always use a brand name Alkaline battery.

Cheers.
